Hello, it’s my first issue here.
My hardware: ALFA Network W502U / R36
Problem: USB port doesn’t work.
It works on openwrt-15.05, but does not work on lede-17.01.4 & openwrt-18.06.1.
I tried all I could find on google, but no successes.

All bellow done using: OpenWrt 18.06.1, r7258-5eb055306f

I don’t know how to do diagnostics properly, but here is what I already did:

The Device that this problem occurs on is Netgear WNDR3700v3. I’m using 17.01.04 release of openwrt.
Long story made short, the issue is that USB connects, then later in startup of the router it disconnects and when fully booted it can’t be seen using ‘fdisk -l’ nor can it be mounted (/dev/sda1)...

Installed packages are the ones included in the build + usb-core and its dependencies.

To reproduce this issue:

1.Do standard setup the router ( setup wan, setup lan, switch wifi on).
2.Install packages required for usb functionality.
3.Insert usb and reboot.

You will see during boot that usb light flashes few times and then after boot stops flashing/working. That can be confirmed by dmesg.

I have flashed two versions of OpenWrt v19.07.2, one compiled by myself and the other using the official stable release from the website. On both versions I have then installed the latest version of the LuCI-app-UPnP which includes the miniupnpd daemon.

The problem is UPnP seems to very intermittent of how it picks up the ports from the devices. Some devices and applications show up under the `Active UPnP Redirects` and some don’t at all. My primary testing device is my Sony PS3 and PS4 which requires UPnP to open up ports for an optimal online gaming experience. A common port that I reply on is UDP 3074 that is used by Call of Duty games to achieve open NAT type.

When I was running OpenWrt v18.06.5 at the time in 2019 everything worked perfectly including UPnP. When v19.07.0 was officially released for stable use, I noticed I was getting moderate NAT type within my games. With this in mind I checked the luci-upnp app and noticed that my PS4’s IP address/hostname and the corresponding UDP 3074 was not listed. Sometimes I could get the PS4 to be picked up via the Sony PlayStation network test which would open up UDP port 9308 on LuCI-app-UPnP.

I have opened a couple of OpenWrt forum threads discussing UPnP not working:

The only working version of miniupnpd/luci-app-upnp seems to be miniupnpd 2.1-1 which I have had working on all the v19.07.* firmwares. OpenWrt v19.07.0 shipped with miniupnpd 2.1.20190408-2 and this was the point where it broke. Recently testing with the newer v19.07.2 firmware the miniupnpd has been updated to version 2.1.20191006 and this is the same story whereby the PS3/PS4 can’t be picked up.

Interestingly I did some experimenting and took the files, patches and makefile from the master trunk, replaced `PKG_VERSION:-2.1.20191006` with `PKG_VERSION:-2.1.20200329` in the `makefile` (which is the very latest version of the MiniUPnP daemon source code found at https://miniupnp.tuxfamily.org/files), compiled v19.07.2 and flashed it to my router. I then did a Sony PlayStation network test on my PS4 and UDP port 9308 was listed under `Active UPnP Redirects`. I then proceeded onto Call of Duty Modern Warfare (2019) and UDP port 3074 also appeared! However, I still had moderate NAT type which meant the firewall wasn’t opening up somewhere. After clicking the `Delete` button on the LuCI UPnP page and opening the port manually on the firewall the game did give me open NAT type as expected. Weirdly though, the UPnP listing came back which has never happened any time I’ve used OpenWrt with manual port forwards. In other words if I open a port manually in the firewall UPnP will never list same port and destination device in the `Active UPnP Redirects` list.

However the ip6 subnet that was assigned from the ula does not come back. Haven’t tried it with a public address.

ifup/ifdown does not work and the ifstatus usb0 does not show any ipv6 addresses assigned.

I have two WRT1200AC devices set up. One is the router, and the second one is a 2.4Ghz access point that uses 5Ghz WDS for the back-haul. The problem seems unrelated to WDS, although both routers are configured with multiple wifi interfaces on each radio. I see the problem occur on both devices, so it’s probably not bad hardware. I’ve been battling this problem on all recent releases. Last night I tried 18.06.4, and the problem still exists.

I have multiple LG G6 smartphones running android 8.0.0. The problem is that, although they seemingly maintain a solid wifi connection to my openwrt access points, network connections don’t work most of the time (web pages don’t load, messages don’t come in, etc.) Laptops seem to work just fine over wifi. The internet connection itself is perfectly stable, and devices wired to either device work just fine.

The phones seem to work ok on wifi immediately after resetting the access point. After a few minutes, though, the problem crops up and persists no matter what I try, until I reset the access point. Once the problem manifests, luci rarely loads on the phone’s web browser, so it’s clearly not a WAN issue.

When the problem kicks in, in the device’s system log, I can see “IEEE 802.11: deauthenticated due to inactivity (timer DEAUTH/REMOVE)” a few seconds after a phone connects to the access point.

As another data point, I was experimenting with 802.11r. I installed the full wpad package and enabled fast transition. Just like above, Wifi would work for a few minutes. Once the problem kicked in though, rather than the phone claiming to be connected but not work, the phone would instead report an authentication failure and then prompt for the wpa password again. The problem occurs with wpad-mini just as much, it’s just interesting that the symptoms change with 802.11r enabled.

I lack specific knowledge about openwrt development, but I’m an embedded software engineer and I’m happy to collect any debug traces that would be helpful. Just give me the commands or point me at the right documentation...

I’ve gave a try to “trunk” build from 30 DEC on WL500GPv1 (brcm47xx - legacy). It generally works but swap-related things appear to be broken in trunk. At least some builds before this date also known to suffer from same problem.

To reproduce, easiest way:
1) Install trunk on WL500GP V1.
2) Install zram-swap script (opkg update; opkg install zram-swap).
3) Observe what happens.
4) Try to enable swap on zram manually to see what happens.

Result:
- When install of zram-swap script finishes, swap activation fails with the following: block: failed to swapon /dev/zram0 (-1)
- Exactly same issue if I try to mkswap & swapon manually or use my own custom scripting to bring up zram swap, etc (these were known to work earlier/in other systems).



I can see “zram” module is loaded, accepted all parameters, mkswap succeeds, but swapon always fails with obscure -1 error. Same for attempt to swapoff, etc. Seems that “block” thing backfires or so?

Quick overview, about a year ago I posted this https://forum.openwrt.org/t/multiple-dhcpv6-wan-interfaces-connection-loss/42056 which gives a detailed overview of what was attempted.

Setting up an alias WAN interface to get multiple /64 prefixes causes them to drop their prefixes ever hour. Setting up multiple WAN interfaces on the same physical interface causes the older one to drop its prefix after an hour while the other works fine.

Steps to reproduce:
Create an alias interface and have it ask for a second prefix from an upstream router

I have a TP-Link RE450 v1 wireless repeater running OpenWrt SNAPSHOT r6257-94a3af88f3 that I want to set up to extend a network running on a DFS-channel. I am able to connect to the main network in client mode - it is hosted on a NETGEAR R7800 running OpenWrt SNAPSHOT r6150-dc7a1e8555 (hnyman’s latest build). However, the repeating network refuses to start up. This is the guide I followed to set up the relayd-based relay (Luci GUI method): https://openwrt.org/docs/user-guide/wifi/relay_configuration

When following the same method to set up a non-DFS channel everything works as it should.

Having a long standing problem which I believe should be relatively easy to fix. I’ve spent hours searching for a solution without luck.

openwrt provided DHCP works has expected on my network: I’m able to recive IP and resolve them as well (using host or nslookup).

The issue is with the following:
1- I cannot resolve any device that is using a static IP even if defined in static lease section.
2- After reboot I cannot resolve any host/IP until they renew against the dhcp

Plain UML images are fine and work. If you want to build images with the imagebuilder the default package list is not honored and modules are missing - like kmod-80211-hwsim and all related packages.

The squashfs image also does not work:

According to RFC 6762 - Multicast DNS (https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6762), section 6. Responding tells:

The destination UDP port in all Multicast DNS responses MUST be 5353, and the destination address MUST be the mDNS IPv4 link-local multicast address 224.0.0.251 or its IPv6 equivalent FF02::FB, except when generating a reply to a query that explicitly requested a unicast response:
* via the unicast-response bit,
* by virtue of being a legacy query (Section 6.7), or
* by virtue of being a direct unicast query.

But current umdns implementation sets sender’s IP as dst IP for the response and always sets dst port 5353 ignoring actual sender’s port while sending the unicast response.

Also RFC 6762 tells that simple DNS resolver that uses One-Shot Multicast DNS Queries MUST NOT use source port 5353 (sections 5. Querying and 5.1. One-Shot Multicast DNS Queries):

These queries are typically done using a high-numbered ephemeral UDP source port, but regardless of whether they are sent from a dynamic port or from a fixed port, these queries MUST NOT be sent using UDP source port 5353, since using UDP source port 5353 signals the presence of a fully compliant Multicast DNS querier.

Usecase:
As a web developer I would benefit from having the possibility to send events from the server to the browser so the browser can react to it dynamically.

The proposed implementation is the leanest possible.

A SSE (Server-Sent Event) is a simple protocol on top of basic http polling to send messages from the http server to the browser for the purpose of instant notifications.
It comes implemented in all major browsers, including mobile.

If paired with `ubus listen` or `ubus monitor`, a seamless integration with the ubus pipeline could be implemented.

We tried to implement it by adding an option in this line of code but got stuck in our lack of corutine mechanisms and how uhttpd works.

The difference with the call and list options is that this one should be long-lived and progressive, preventing the dreaded polling from the web (also, better us of resources, more elegant implementation, etc).

As an example, a very basic implementation of a SSE server in php:

Install luci-ssl. It will configure uhttpd to listen on port 443 and redirect http to https. In particular, it will add to /etc/config/uhttpd:

 option redirect_https '1'

However, the semantics of this redirect are wrong if a non-self-signed certificate is used.

In particular, it is now a boolean option, and always gets the redirect target from the Host: header. That is, it redirects http://192.168.1.1/ to https://192.168.1.1/, and, assuming that openwrt.mydomain.ru resolves to 192.168.1.1, it will also redirect http://openwrt.mydomain.ru/ to https://openwrt.mydomain.ru/.

What I want is a string option that specifies the domain for redirects. I.e., I should be able to set something like this:

 option redirect_https_domain 'openwrt.mydomain.ru'

and then both http://192.168.1.1/ and http://openwrt.mydomain.ru/ and http://anything.that.resolves.to.192.168.1.1.com/ should redirect to https://openwrt.mydomain.ru/.

I was having trouble building uClibc++ in Openwrt. I figured out that the problem was that the LIBSUP_DEP variable, which is a filename that gets created during the build, was too long for my file system. The name generated was over 150 char long and my fs has a limit of 143. I guess this because I have an encrypted homedir. Anyway, I analyzed the build system of uClibc++, and it seems to vary with the file location for libsupc++.a which is used to extract a bunch of symbols and create the static lib.

I had configured my build to build for a Turris Omnia.

Software versions: master branch of OpenWrt

Steps to reproduce:
1. Configure to build image for Turris Omnia.
2. Build with: `make package/libs/uclibc++/compile -j1 V=sc`

If this patch get’s accepted upstream, we should add a patch to package/libs/uclibc++/patches/ for this.

If I do import multiple times it results if an error.

This happens because ucert -A appears to be appending several libubox “blobs” together, but cert_load() uses libubox’ blob_parse_untrusted() which expects to get a buffer with a single blob inside, and no padding.

Thus a valid ucert file with certificate and signature will be *bigger* than the first blob inside it, and blob_parse_untrusted() in libubox won’t even try to process it.

Since this renders ucert useless, severity is set to high.
