This looks to be due to incomplete backports of openssl1.1 changes into 1.0.2l (or earlier 1.0 releases, I’m not sure). In particular, many of these pieces of code are guarded by #ifdef HAVE_... tests which are currently evaluating to false. For example,

Applicable to all devices using the generic sysupgrade.

Seen on LEDE head.

To reproduce:

scp over a new .img file

upgrade it as “sysupgrade -v xyzzy.img”

While that’s running, you’ll be able to ping the router, but if you do an http connection to it, it will be reset.

What would be simpler would be doing a “/etc/init.d/network stop” just after killing off all services (including web servers).

This would make it easier to add scripting which auto-detects when the upgrade has completed by reconnecting after a reasonable wait (and retrying as necessary).

There doesn’t seem to be a reason why syslog service can’t be brought up earlier, such as START=12.

Since it typically runs on an unbound socket, adding or deleting interfaces should have no effect.

This would also allow any configuration (network and otherwise) scripts encountering errors to log them.

So far as I have been able to discern, there is no mechanism for blocking a service’s start until a particular filesystem has been mounted (or directory exists). The motivation is that I run collectd (via luci-statistics, natch) on my router and persist the data sets (rrds) across reboot by having them written to a USB stick. However, early in boot, collectd sometimes (often? always?) manages to come up before the mount completes, and so touches the on-router flash, creating its basedir and datadir and the rrds and so on.

Let’s say I want to enable dropbear only in the tun0 interface created by OpenVPN. The dropbear configuration has an “Interface” field where I can make it listen, for example, only on the “wan” or “lan” interfaces. But the tun0 interface has not been created by anything in /etc/config/network and LEDE doesn’t really know about it, so I can’t specify it the dropbear configuration.

Even adding the tun0 interface to a “vpn” network in /etc/config/network using “proto none” fails to do the trick.

WZR-600DHP with OpenWrt (Attitude Adjustment) allowed me to set htmode per-SSID. Furthermore, this seems to have worked, since my Nexus 5X (which doesn’t work with HT40 on any channel other than 3) connected to my HT20 SSID, but failed to connect to my HT40 SSID.

LEDE (Reboot / 17.01.2) seems to have moved htmode to a radio-specific option instead, so I have lost this functionality.

4. Observe issues - luci no stats for memory etc, PPPoE fails to connect after setup.

Please let me know what other information or further testing would be useful.

Description: where no query type is provided to nslookup busybox applet, nslookup assumes A + AAAA queries (if the domain argument cannot be converted into a ptr). Then, if the A query succeeds but AAAA fails (for example, no record for an IPv6 address for the given hostname), nslookup returns “Can’t find hostname: No answer”. The “no answer” response looks puzzling. One has to review the the nslookup applet’s source code to understand that there is nothing wrong with the DNS server.

For example:

Suggested fix: either add type information in the response, like “type A: X.X.X.X, type AAAA: can’t find hostname: no answer”, or omit the AAAA response if only A record is found.

- Gateworks Ventana imx6 board (GW5200)

Synopsis:

Running sysupgrade with a valid image fails if the kernel console is disabled in u-boot (setenv console ; saveenv; reset)
As soon as sysupgrade starts, the board reboots immediately.

The detected reboot reason displayed is exactly the same in both cases.

Reset cause: WDOG
WDOG1 Reset cause: SFTW
WDOG2 Reset cause: POR

Basically:
- Kernel console enabled (console = ttymxc1) –> sysupgrade runs normally and succeeds
- Kernel console disabled (console = ) –> The board reboots within 1 second as soon as sysupgrade starts

Rationale for disabling kernel console:

- This board exposes 2 UART ports for user applications (ttymxc0, ttymxc1)
- ttymxc1 is shared with the kernel console and needs to be disabled so it does not interfere with the peripheral communication
- Both ports are used in my case (ttymxc0: GPS received ; ttymxc1: Iridium modem)

Problem discovered when enabling the 'minidlna' package, which has a dependency on 'libiconv-full' - a core LEDE package.

Full build log is also attached

Tested with a full default configuration and only options enabled being GCC 7 and a modular option for the libiconv-full package, so that should rule out any external influence.

When I set the wifi channel to ‘auto’, on a tp-link wr840n v4, the wifi interface seems to get disabled.

I’m using “Reboot SNAPSHOT r5122-f7a6fd3”.

If I fix some channel (1 to 11), the wifi connection works normaly.

- Steps to reproduce: reboot

I did an update to trunk and made a lede build for the HG556a type B the other day. I have two of these HG556a type B routers both configured as wireless repeaters. I made no changes to the config, I simply wanted the latest security patches installed on my wifi repeaters. The first HG556a connects to a WWAN router that broadcasts 802.11n only, the other WWAN router broadcasts legacy wifi modes and 802.11n. The first works perfectly. The second throws up numerous errors in syslog from boot time, reboot every few hours and repeatedly disconnects from clients and the WWAN router. See syslog below:

By design, dnsmasq does not assume that two requests from the same source MAC address are for the same client if their client-id is different. Put another way, the requester is effectively identified by a <MAC,client-id> pair. This is discussed in the dnsmasq FAQ http://www.thekelleys.org.uk/dnsmasq/docs/FAQ under the question “I’m network booting my machines, and trying to give them static DHCP-assigned addresses...”

As a result, a machine that has been assigned a static address, which first requests an IP address without sending a client-id, and later makes a request with a client-id, will not be given the assigned static IP in response to the subsequent request. (The static IP will bind to the initial <MAC,client-id> pair with the null client-ID.)

To resolve this, one of the following options could be implemented:

  1. Mention the problem in the documentation, and advise the user to append “,id:*” to the MAC address if they run into this issue. (This will cause issues for luci users because this will be considered a malformed MAC address, and luci will refuse to save changes.)
  2. The dnsmasq init script could always insert “,id:*” immediately after the mac address on the generated dhcp-host configuration line.
  3. The dhcp.host entry could be extended with an “allow-any-client-id” or “ignore-client-id” boolean, which, if selected, would cause “,id:*” to be inserted as above.
  4. The dhcp.host entry could be extended with an optional “client-id” field, which would allow an explicit DHCP client-id to be set for the host. That ID could be used instead of or in addition to the existing “mac” entry. Semantics would need to be defined to make sure that the handling is well-defined.

Whichever option is chosen, the documentation should be updated. If an entry is added to the dhcp.host schema, bugs should be filed on other DHCP server packages (e.g.: isc-dhcp-server-ipv4) so that they can also implement the new functionality.

It looks like there is enough memory availible, where is the problem? Can someone explain it? With a sysctl -w vm.min_free_kbytes=0 the upgrade is possible.

The commonly used OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.4.22.1.2 does not report a complete list of clients.

Using snmpd 5.7.3-3 on LEDE 17.01.04, ssh in and display a list of connected clients with iwinfo wlan0 assoclist. To query via SNMP from another machine, use snmpwalk -v2c 172.24.32.15 1.3.6.1.2.1.4.22.1.2

mini-snmpd and mini_snmpd both seem to be unavailable as alternatives.

I have a pair of Nanostation Loco M2 access points setup as a wireless bridge over a ~1300 foot (~400M) line of sight link.
I have had LEDE 17.01.3, 17.0.4 and OpenWrt SNAPSHOT r5499-575178e / LuCI Master (git-17.343.27587-8e6b1a6).

One is setup as a WDS AP and the other is setup as a WDS Client, after a few hours (4-12 hours?) the link drops out but still says that is connected (if I go to status it shows the other AP as connected but I cannot ping or do anything else across the link).
If I restart the wireless service on the client, the connection comes right back and all is well for a 4-12 hours.

I’m attempting to use QMI on a GL.Inet MiFi equipped with a Quectel EC-25A cellular modem.

When I configure the interface using qmi I am able to connect to the cellular network at the radio layer, however my wwan0 interface is not assigned an IP address. Here’s my configuration from /etc/config/network:

And some commands showing the device behaviour. You’ll note that raw_ip needs to be set to Y. I’ve integrated this [patch](https://github.com/bmork/LEDE/commit/10aed12fa587e818e4dc5d0db54545623fbe9b5f) to have qmi.sh set the raw_ip mode when required.

If I manually use the uqmi command to connect to the cellular network I can then drive the wwan0 interface using dhcp successfully. Here’s my /etc/config/network.

The option CONFIG_STRIP_KERNEL_EXPORTS adds “-include symtab.h” for all linker script invokations. See openwrt/include/kernel-defaults.mk:

On recent kernels (4.9.x, arm64 build), linker scripts are used to generate “vdso.lds” at the “make modules” stage.
But the file “symtab.h” is generated later (at the install/image generation stage). See openwrt/include/kernel-build.mk:

ntpd V4.2.6p5 and V4.2.8p10(cross compiled with clock RAWDCF)
reference clock
  server 127.127.8.0-3 mode 5
  RAW DCF77 100/200ms pulses
pl2303 usb to serial adapter (/dev/ttyUSB0)
=> set to 50 Baud by ntpd when opening
DCF77 reciever connected per serial line to pl2303
=> No problem with V12.09 with Attitude Adjustment
   Time decode with dcfd and ntpd works absolutely reliable.
The 100ms/200ms pulses send from the DCF77 reciever code bits "0" and "1".
The length of the signal on the serial RX line is decoded by the ntpd.
One bit per second is send. After 60 seconds the telegram is decoded to the actual time and date.  
 => The puls length hat to be acurately "send" through the pl2303 to the kernel serial line driver into ntpd.

Problem:

Since V15, and also on the latest V17.01.4 the dcfd and ntpd could not decode the dcf telegram.
There always "1" decoded, or the transmission is invalid, due to inconsitency "flapping" bits

Suggestions:

Suspect some changes in the Linux kernel which effects the timne measurement 
or inside the pl2303 driver, so the bits are not corretly decoded (100ms/200ms).

Reproduce/Debug:

I'm able to test new kernel and driver modules on my test environmet
perhaps "setserial" (can't fint it anywhere) can set some serial line parameters

Working well on TP-Link 4300, V12.09:

Return pointer from realloc may not be the same as ptr→s. Due to realloc mechanism, pointers value from ptr→s→options are copied to the ptr→last. However, those pointers (ptr→last→s→options) are pointing back to the ptr→s which has been freed.

Steps to reproduce:
From time to time, the box will reboot spuriously. Uptimes vary, between 12 hours and 2 weeks. After such a reboot, some of the ethernet ports do not detect a link anymore. Unplugging and replugging the ethernet cable into the same port does not help, and the kernel will only notice a link if I plug the ethernet cable into another port.
Sometimes, the ethernet port loses link even without a reboot.
Syslog is logged to an external server via UDP and does not show any error message prior to the spurious reboot.

Workaround:
Performing a manual reboot after the spurious reboot fixes the ethernet link loss.

Possibly relevant difference between dmesg on a spurious and normal reboot:

Just created a monitor interface with an WLE200NX:

Usually system just hangs with no messages in the log. I’ve tried to enable log writing to external USB flash, but the log just stops in the time when the issue occurs.
I have no idea how to reproduce it. It could happen 3-5 times a day, but sometimes systems works for a week with no issues.

I’ve tried a lot of snapshot builds since 20180111, but the issue still exists.

The only strange think I found - some amount of dropped packets on ethernet interface connected to local network.

I think it’s related to local network traffic somehow. I put the anoter router in this network and both of the routers hang the same time once.
The second router was Netgear wnr1000v2 based on ar71xx.

I’ve also tried to change the Xiaomi router with different one but same model. Nothing changed.

Is there any possibility to find out what happens with the kernel. The sysctl properties set to reboot it in 3 seconds on panic, but it’s not rebooting, just staying in this state.

I realize that forcing the generic usb serial in this way is not “proper” but it seems necessary for the moment to get any communication with the modem

i have applied all Patches to a native 4.14(.11/20)-Kernel-Source.
It compiles fine, looks good (ip a in system), but i get no response to icmp,
outgoing seems to work, but ip-header gets damaged (tcpdump on remote host reports “truncated-ip - 6 bytes missing!”). Maybe because of that that my remote-host sends no icmp echo reply...

FYI, I fixed a build bug in gpsd that allows using gpsd with CANbus / NMEA 2000 : FS#783

Now, it would nice to have a way to initialize the CANbus.

For example, the “8 devices USB2CAN” adapter ( https://www.8devices.com/products/usb2can ) needs :

ip link set can0 type can bitrate 250000

... and the CANable adapter ( http://canable.io/ ) needs :

slcan_attach -w -o -c -s5 /dev/ttyACM0 &

ip link set up slcan0

... after that gpsd can be configured with

gpsd.device=”nmea2000://slcan0”

... and it should work

It seems after flashing the lede firmware, the brcm47xx board detection not working for this unit.

Under luci first “status” page, the “model” of the wireless router shows “unknown board” instead of the correct model number. For example, ASUS RT-N15U

When i flash back to cc15.05.1 or bb14.07, the luci will show the correct model no. of the router.

There are so many models of the brcm47xx series and several of them can not be displayed and recognized.

I am currently trying to compile OpenWRT for

While the default configuration (i.e. just setting this three options, then running make defconfig, then compiling) compiles fine, the compilation of my custom configuration aborts with an error when trying to link busybox and it is not really clear for me what the origin of the error is.

The, I think, important bits of the output of make are:

Trying libraries: crypt m rpc
 Library crypt is not needed, excluding it
 Library m is not needed, excluding it
 Library rpc is needed, can't exclude it (yet)

I am building in the following way:

The build was carried out on a git clone, later brought up to date with a git pull, with latest commit from 2018-03-05T10:44:20+01:00, commit hash 5cbd22bb0f.

Into this git clone a previously generated .config seed, made previously by make menuconfig and ./scripts/diffconfig.sh, was copied over to ./.config.

From there on, the following commands were issued:

./scripts/feeds update -a
./scripts/feeds install -a
make -j1 V=s defconfig
make -j1 V=s download
make -j1 V=s IGNORE_ERRORS=m 2>%1 | tee make.log

(Note: Those commands were already issued earlier, then the build error occured, and for preparing this report I updated to the newest state with git pull and issued the commands again. It made (re)compile faster due to ccache and due to already compiled files present, but might affect the output of make. Just to note if things might be suspicious. The actual error messages just before the build aborts did stay the same.)

What am I doing wrong/ what is going wrong? I am not sure at all if this is indeed a bug in the build system, or something I am doing wrong. (Note: I am not familiar with linker at all.)

usbmode sits in a loop right after installation, doesn’t switch the Modem in MBMI mode and thus no /dev/cdc-wdm0 device is created and prints constantly:

Tried LEDE 17.01.4 r3560-79f57e422d without success, but messages are only printed once after “usbmode -s” is called, also there isn’t a cdc-wdm0 device created.

- Any additional info you thinks is important

This HW config is working fine with cdc_mbim on Debian with a 4.9 Kernel and their usb-modeswitch implementation.
