I think tl-wr1043nd v2 is also affected. Archer C7 v4 is not affected as the leds as assigned through switches.

Tested working

  • 18.06.2
  • 18.06.8

Steps to reproduce

  1. Clean flash of 19.x sysupgrade image
  2. Enable 5ghz AP with default settings
  3. Connect to 5ghz with client

Observed Behaviour:

  • Client can authenticate
  • DHCP handshake initiated but not completed

Other notes:

  • If client also connected by ethernet, DHCPACK is received and connection successful. Client continues to have network access over wifi for ~15 seconds after disconnecting ethernet, then disassociates. See log #2.
  • Noticed 5ghz AP non-functional while investigating different issue where all 2.4g clients dropped until radio restarted.
  • Hopefully this is helpful, I am not sure how to debug any deeper than this.

QCA9980 should have intermediate software queues. Intermediate software queues don’t seem to be working. The reqular mq qdisc is in use for the 5GHz wireless.

A previous build had high latency on the 5 GHz wireless interface. The latency was spiking to 20-50ms with a single client.

 FS#957  is connected to this bug. The router might be unstable because of the other bug.

Hi, I have a Archer C2 v3 (AC900) that I flashed the latest snapshot on and I noticed that it would crash (and freeze up) constantly if any 5 GHz WiFi device is connected - due to what I suspected is a kernel memory leak (though I’m no kernel hacker).

I observed that memory was being eaten up but not by any process I could see.
The AP has been running fine for the last few days with 802.11nac disabled, so that’s my where I’ve drawn my conclusion.

In System → logging page,System log buffer sizeset to 1KiB ,Write system log to file set to /etc/passwd. At the end , clicking “Save & Apply” button.

This is a bug report for the AR9341 SOC on LEDE trunk reboot-2445-gee5a6c1.

I have builded a custom firmware for a unsupported device based on the Atheros DB120 reference board.

The analog port of the ethernet switch needs to be resetted before it can operate.

Part of bootlog without analog reset:

A reset is performed by the function ath79_register_eth (defined in dev-eth.c):

An easy fix is to do a analog reset in the device’s mach file. However, for the sake of consistency and autism, the reset should be performed by ath79_register_eth in dev_eth.c and not by ar934x_nfc_hw_reset in dev_nfc.c. My AR9341 device doesn’t even use a NAND flash.

I have a TP-Link Archer C7 v5 (ath79/generic) running OpenWrt 19.07.2 r10947-65030d81f3 and periodically one of my hosts sends out a long-running flood (10/sec) of MPCP Pause frames. The AR8337 switch is configured to honor these frames on port 0 (CPU), and other ports, so stops switching frames essentially forever.

There is no way exposed to user to disable flow control.

Flow control should be turned off unless explicitly requested by the user (e.g., they are in a Datacenter/Enterprise environment and/or doing Fibre Channel over Ethernet). This is exactly the opposite of how it currently is with the added benefit that the user cannot change the behavior.

You can use this to bring down your network indefinitely. Additionally, since the AR8337 switch consumes these frames you will not be able to see them from the OpenWRT host.

On my TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND v3 (ar71xx QCA9558) with today’s LEDE snapshot, the AR8327 switch isn’t sending port change interrupt events to the CPU.

The `ar8xxx_check_link_states` function in `target/linux/generic/files/drivers/net/phy/ar8216.c` is not being called at all, since not only the messages about port link status change aren’t printed to the dmesg, but the ARL table isn’t getting cleaned either. I don’t understand why this is happening...

This regression is not present in other routers with the same AR8327 switch chip (but rev. 2 instead of rev. 4), such as TP-LINK TL-WDR4300 v1 (ar71xx) and TP-LINK TL-WDR4900 v1 (mpc85xx).

(Latest LEDE stable release also does exibit the regression.)

Below you can see a session with LEDE; and a session with OpenWrt CC 15.05.1 release, which does not exibit the problem.

(The CC image is for the TL-WR1043ND v2, since v3 images weren’t built yet at that time; v2 and v3 are the same hardware, as it can be seen from the FCC docs, where TP-LINK requested an ID change from v2 to v3.)

Please let me know if there’s anything I can try to help debug this problem!

It seems, that devices containing AR8327 rev4 wont achieve more than 1/5 of the specified nominal LAN speeds, when acting as an endpoint.

Further observations: WLAN clients won’t exceed 25-30 Mbit/s, when using one of the trunked vlans. (WLAN client iwlwifi, Centrino N 2230, e.g. in either 40 or 20 MHz against A-devices in 802.11n WDS AP mode).

Since this is no WAN to LAN scenario, (missing) HWNAT cannot be involved.
Why is the switch performance below expectations? Is this a hw issue or a driver problem?

I have 2 vlan channel in family network for IPTV STB with VLAN 51 & 85. My router is WZR-HP-G302H which have the same hardware with WZR-HP-G300NH2.

With the default vlans1&2, I set the switch has 4 vlan channels:
vlan1 goes cpu(port0) tagged, lan(port1-4) untagged, wan(port5) off,
vlan2 goes cpu(port0) tagged, lan(port1-4) off, wan(port5) untagged,
vlan51(for multicast) goes cpu(port0) untagged, IPTV(port1) tagged, PC(port2-4) off, wan(port5) tagged,
vlan85(IPTV stream) goes cpu(port0) untagged, IPTV(port1) tagged, PC(port2-4) off, wan(port5) tagged.
And I use TTL to logon my IPTV STB, with ifconfig eth0&eht0.85, I can see the STB got both internet routing ip(192.168.2.x) & IPTV intranet ip(217.xxx.xxx.xxx), but when I’m trying to ping 192.168.2.1, it failed.
When I set wan(port5) with vlan51&85 off, the internet was back, and got acks from ping 192.168.1.1.
So I tried to replace wan to port1-4 ,IPTV port to port2-5 with all the possibility, it shows the same problem.

Then I try to use the route with AP mode:
vlan1 goes cpu(port0) tagged, lan(port1-5) untagged,
vlan51 goes cpu(port0) off, lan(port1-5) tagged,
vlan85 goes cpu(port0) off, lan(port1-5) tagged.
The STB still got 2 IPs , which 192.168.1.x & 217.xxx.xxx.xxx both offerd by Modem’s DHCP.
And the same problem appears: only port with both vlan51&85 turned off can got internet access, others not.

I tried firmwares openwrt-19.07.1-ath79-generic-buffalo_wzr-hp-g302h-a1a0-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin, openwrt-19.07.1-ar71xx-generic-wzr-hp-g300nh2-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin and openwrt-18.06.7-ar71xx-generic-wzr-hp-g300nh2-squashfs-sysupgrade, they shows the same problem while the port sets in hybird mode with vlan tagged & untagged.

So I have to seeks documents and troubleshoots for help. Finally I found the ticket:(https://dev.archive.openwrt.org/ticket/12181.html) told the same problem.
But the ticket is 5 yeas ago, and the ar8216.c no in 19.07.1 and 18.06.7 is definitely different, the “k”‘s path is no longer available with new ar8216.c, so I have to report the bug here again.
Is there any patch or a new fixed version of ar8216.c work with hybird mode which inculde tagged & untagged frame on the same port? Thank you very much.

Same DIR615C1 running 18.06.08 works fine.

If I compile the current snapshot with the 18.06.8 code from ar8216.c, ar8216.h, ar8327.c and ar8327.h (the last two were required because of compilation errors), the snapshot image with the older 18.06.8 ar8216 drivers works fine.

There are significant changes in the way the ar8216 is initialized and setup from 18.06.8 to 19.07.1 and the latter code is not reading incoming packets because RX packets and RX bytes are always 0.

Can’t tell if this is specific to MikroTik devices or if it also affects other AR8xxx switch based ones.
This was working in the past (old OpenWrt r46741), but I can’t tell when or how long it stopped working.

The serial console isn’t working on MikroTik RB750UPr2 (NOR flash) (normal boot). Netboot is fine though. Notice no-uart in the kernel command line args.

I updated my TP-LINK TL-WDR3600 to OpenWrt 18.06.1 to attach 2 Harddisks in RAID1. The disks were attached to a Linux PC before and they work there without any problems. They are also working with gexxbox (cubibox hardware).

If I try to mount the RAID as sda I get the following:

I’m trying to get the latest LEDE with Kernel 4.9 up and running with an old Fritz!Box 7170 (ar7/EVA).
The images build fine but they are not booting at all.

Is someone able to help? I have tried to collect the “internet knowledge” about this device in this github.
I also found some very old OpenWRT patches (1)(2) for whom I don’t know if they were ever integrated in master.
I’m not a developer myself, so I don’t even know how to integrate patches to try them out.

I also created a forum thread if anyone has some more tips or ideas.

There was only a single case of dozens experiments when I saw all three interfaces working. In that case, both APs were visible and accessible, the client was connected to the external AP, and packet routing was established between LAN (RJ-45 and APs) and WWAN (the client). It means that this SoC is technically capable of running mixed mode interfaces on a single radio. Unfortunately, in that case I didn't think to save the logs.

In most cases, when AP networks are not exposed, system log contains repeated error messages from hostapd:

daemon.err hostapd: Failed to set beacon parameters
daemon.notice hostapd: handle_probe_req: send failed

I'm afraid that client initialization is performed first, and some beacon parameters are set for the radio driver. When hostapd tries to set its own parameters, the driver fails the request. But in the case where all three interfaces worked, initialization sequence most probably was slightly different, so there was no conflict. Unfortunately, I cannot reproduce that successful case, but at that time, I carefully checked all the functionality to ensure that it really worked as expected.

I tried to change AP channel from Auto to a particular number, as suggested in FS#3114, but this didn't help.


The problem occurs in many stable OpenWRT releases. The latest are 19.07.3 and 19.07.7 (both are generic).


Steps to reproduce:

 
* Create at least two wireless interfaces: one client/STA, one or more master/AP.

Boots fine.

Any software installed or files copied to flash disappear after reboot.

However LAN ethernet IP address is (usually)remembered but did get reset on one occasion.
But WiFi config of a USB dongle is always lost.

The board has a Lexar 16GB UDMA7 CF card. This config works fine with OpenWrt CC.

Reflashing, changing the flash card etc makes no difference.

My pppoe-wan has IPv4 (wan) and native IPv6 (wan_6) connections, I also have a 6to4-wan6 tunnel (native IPv6 from some ISPs can’t reach 6to4 addresses, additionally 6to4 normally offers faster connections to other 6to4 addresses). I want to enable mtu_fix for IPv4 only, but the option applies to all interfaces in the wan firewall zone (see ip6tables output below). Please make mtu_fix more granular so that different network interfaces (including virtual interfaces like wan_6) can have independent mtu_fix settings.

On a separate note, IPv4 iptables contains rules for 6to4 interface, is this a mistake? I don’t think IPv4 traffic could go through 6to4 interface.

If possible it would be good to add proto-41 firewall rule automatically when 6to4 is used, the rule is documented in the last part of https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/network/ipv6/barrier.breaker.ipv6.6to4 , the rule should really limit the scope to ipv4 family.

As IPv6 is being adopted, increasingly people are seeing dnsmasq log ‘spam’. By default under openwrt, dhcpv4 leases are handled by dnsmasq whilst dhcpv6/RA is handled by openwrt’s odhcpd.

odhcpd could handle both v4 & v6 but does not yet have the same configuration flexibility for dhcp options as dnsmasq. I guess this is why no one has been brave enough to switch to odhcpd for ipv4 operations as well as ipv6.

dnsmasq can also handle dhcpv6/RA but not quite as flexibly as odhcpd. dnsmasq will automatically find IP6 prefixes on interfaces and start handling them, whilst openwrt’s strategy with odhcpd is to only handle stuff we tell you to handle, don’t do it automagically.

As dnsmasq is the default resolver for openwrt and the wider LAN, it needs to know about DHCP/hostname allocations. For DHCPv4 this is easy, dnsmasq is controlling them. For DHCPv6 a hosts file (called a statefile in the odhcpd code) is handed to dnsmasq.

By default this host file is not read dynamically, so odhcpd has to signal dnsmasq to re-read the host file (and clear caches etc etc) upon every ipv6 lease change.

This generates a lot of log spam and process startup overhead. There are also questions about service operability during this time.

Effort needs to be put into sorting this out.

Temporary workarounds:

Use ‘hostsdir’ dnsmasq option instead of ‘addn-hosts’ - dnsmasq will dynamically scan changes/additions to hosts in hostsdir whereas addn-hosts needs a SIGHUP. Host deletions cannot be handled by this method, so odhcpd would still need to SIGHUP on lease expiry. It might reduce some of the spam.

Longer term:

Teach dnsmasq to accept hostname updates over an IPC mechanism. ubus? and carry on using odhcpd for ipv6.

Teach dnsmasq to handle ipv6 prefix additions/deletions/handling via an IPC mechanism in the same way as odhcpd. Drop odhcpd and use dnsmasq for everything.

Use odhcpd for everything and use another dns resolver that interfaces nicely with odhcpd.

Why don’t I see this problem: I use dnsmasq to handle ipv6 but I’m lucky enough that this works for me.

This needs fixing/funding to sort it out though.

Steps to reproduce:

root@OpenWrt:~# ip link set eth0 mtu 500
root@OpenWrt:~# ip link set eth0 down; ip link set eth0 up
root@OpenWrt:~# ip link set eth0 mtu 1500

After this, sending a large packet (ping -s 800) causes a kernel panic:

The problem is the rx buffer management in target/linux/ath79/files/drivers/net/ethernet/atheros/ag71xx/ag71xx_main.c: ag71xx_change_mtu adjusts the MTU, but doesn’t adjust rx_buf_size (it’s only set in ag71xx_open).

The attached patch fixes it by always using a large receive buffer. Maybe it is better to change rx_buf_size from ag71xx_change_mtu, but I don’t know how to do that.

Device: Linksys E1700
Running: Trunk, but also tested positive with 17.01

After rebooting the E1700 router, that has a device connected, whos network card has enery saving activated, the link of the port, that the device is connected to, does not come up.

Tested with a Dell laptop with a Realtek PCIe GBE Familiy Controller, the driver options that needed to be deactivated were “Energy Efficient Ethernet” and “Green Ethernet”.
But the problem also happened with various thin clients and printers.

The log or dmesg does not show anything regarding this.

Just flashed 19.07.4 on Kingston MLWG2.

Followed online procedure found (copy image to SD card, touch special file, login via telnet on stock firmware, write image, reboot device) to flash OpenWRT.

After flash, device “seems” stuck dead (all leds are on, wired network irresponsive, no WiFi AP detected).

I have opened the device, soldered the serial console pins and accessere via serial console.

Device is actually booting perfectly, but both wired and wifi are not accessible.

1. I have WiFi enabled by setting “disabled = 0” in /etc/config/wireless to OpenWrt AP

2. I have Wired enabled by adding “option iface “eth0”” to the “lan” interface in /etc/config/network

3. Device now works great

Without these two changes, the device is as good as dead.

This is a peculiar device: only 1 ethernet port and 2.4Ghz Wifi. My guess something is wrong in the vlan/bridge/switch settings?

I hope a fix can be commited somehow so that future users do not end up with a dead-like device.

On forum found workaround to manually add

Observed behavior:

Adding a static v4 route i.e 172.16.253.0 via 172.16.253.254 in the Luci Static route page succesfully adds the route, and by default appears to select the local route table. However viewing the routes list in status or via ip r s on cli does not show the entry.

Work-Around:

Ensure that a different table is selected in the 'Advanced tab' then go back in and add it to the correct appropriate route table.



Expected behaviour:

Adding a static route add's it to the system route table irrespective of needing to switch into advanced tab and select a non-default route table first.

Mesh network will get associated to the wlan device, mesh starts to work

Wish:
