- Upgrade to 21.02 (this is a custom build version because the version on the openwrt-download does not work (bug 2226))
- after reboot the WiFi device is not available
- run WiFi up resuls in message in logread:

Nailed it down by starting from a fresh config a few times and cleaning up the build-chain.

As soon as I include LXC-Support from make menuconfig → utilities → LXC passwd seems broken (encryption?).

LuCi reports that it isn’t able to change the password - if I ssh into the box, use passwd it seemingly succeeds (it does set something) but afterwards login fails both via SSH and passwd.

Even if I build without LuCi the same is happening. dmesg shows nothing ... out of the ordinary - despite the Kernel being build with debug-flags.

Any clue how to debug that further? I’m pretty new to building OpenWRT myself.

I have a issue with miniupnpd 2.2.1-1 i have tested both OpenWrt 19.07.7 to 21.02.0-rc1 r16046-59980f7aaf via ipq40xx.

When restarting miniupnpd it doesn’t seems to work or opening any ports but gives messages like so:

The only configuration changes was to set the wireless to enabled with encryption set to mixed WPA2/WPA3 PSK, SAE (CCMP)

Attached are images from a WSL2 instance on a windows 10 Intel 9560 laptop connected to the 2.4GHz radio (MT7603E) on a Linknetgear r6220 running OpenWrt 21.02 rc1. The laptop will disconnect before finishing. When running on wrt3200acm or r7800 there are no connection issues like this. Test was also done with a local 192.168.1.2 host directly wired into the r6220.

I did a small debugging session and it looks like `bridge_state.has_vlans` is always false - but I’m not exactly sure this is relevant.

Unfortunately this bugs make impossible to run any VLAN tagged ports on this device with any version of OpenWrt. Given that current releases are using DSA for this platform this is a regression from non-DSA setup.

I’ll be happy to provide any additional information.
I’ve tried to debug it myself by could not really find any obvious problems. So any ideas for this would be welcome too.

Steps to reproduce

SSH from one computer to another machine that is on the internet

machine 1 < —- > openwrt 21.02.0-rc1 ←— internet —→ machine 2

Run this command on machine 1: watch ‘sleep 3000;date’

After some time has passed (wait about 30 minutes, maybe a little less):
1) the ssh tunnel will exit when you press enter in the terminal.
2) The error message will be: “client_loop: send disconnect: Broken pipe”

I have a D-Link DIR-882 A1 router (MT7621 + 2x MT7615N, 128 MB of RAM, 16 MB of NOR flash) running OpenWrt SNAPSHOT r16087-1d412235a5 (built on March 4, 2021) and I need to pass quirks=0bc2:231a:u parameter to the usb-storage module at boot in order to skip loading of the UAS driver, which is currently broken on the xhci-mtk driver this router uses (as reported here, here, here and on various topics on the OpenWrt Forums), and prevents an external USB 3.0 HDD I have to work with it.

Accordingly to several sources, this should be easily accomplished by writing usb-storage quirks=<vid>:<pid>:u on a single line into /etc/modules.d/usb-storage, however, the specified parameter is ignored and never reaches the kernel module, as running cat /sys/module/usb_storage/parameters/quirks after boot is complete returns empty. I also found this thread, dating back to 2018, with other users having the same issue, and which also seems to confirm that adding the kernel module parameters to the corresponding file under /etc/modules.d is how it’s supposed to work, but it simply doesn’t.

The only workaround I found so far is running echo “0bc2:231a:u” > /sys/module/usb_storage/parameters/quirks after booting, but then I need to physically unplug and re-plug the HDD for the changes to take effect, this also needs to be done every time the router powers on, which is very annoying. Other things I tried includes creating /etc/modprobe.d/usb-storage.conf with options usb-storage quirks=<vid>:<pid>:u and also unloading (and ever completely removing) kmod-usb-storage-uas from the device, but none of that worked.

So, is there any other mechanism for passing parameters to kernel modules at boot time? As far as I searched, /etc/modules.d seems to be the only one, but it’s broken...

It seems that some D-Link devices require additional header values in order to flash it via the recovery and to upgrade existing installs. The older versions of the DIR-2660 A1 could be flashed with the current OpenWrt snapshot.

The latest batch of DIR-2660 devices, and possibly others, come with a new bootloader that requires some additional header fields to be set. Manually changing the headers of the factory and upgrade files, allows them to flash succesfully;

you can edit one your self if you like
add "DIR-2660" text at address 0x40 hex
add "V1.00000" text at address 0x80 hex
add "A1" text at address 0x90 hex
change bytes 0x04 to 0x07 to 00
create crc32 for bytes 0x0 to 0x9F
place result in bytes 0x04 to 0x07

In the last four to six days the wireless on my network kept failing (particularly overnight - but that may be less to do with time of day and more to do with lease expiry??). I searched and found that someone else resolved this back in around 2018 by enabling IGMP Snooping and then rebooting their router (https://forum.openwrt.org/t/wifi-up-device-connected-but-no-internet/) - That worked for me but only temporarily. This morning, even though (on LuCI and via SSH) I can see IGMP Snooping is still enabled (LAN interface), the same problem occurred - all the wireless devices can connect to the router but not the Internet. For the moment, rebooting the router fixed it but clearly that’s not a realistic solution.

I have marked this high severity because:

- It looks like a regression
- My kids can't access school via their iPads and are getting marked absent! (like many/most, we're in lockdown)

I was looking at the entropy collected by the jitterentropy library that urngd is using. I’ve filed a bug against the library at https://github.com/smuellerDD/jitterentropy-library/issues/21

What I’m seeing it that is overestimates the amount of entropy collected. On my desktop machine this is at least a factor of 100. I’ve not looked at any of my devices using OpenWRT yet, but I expect it to be worse there.

Urngd has an oversampling factor, which is currently set to 2, meaning the factor is 2 time smaller. The oversampling in urngd currently collects twice as many bytes (64), and then tells the kernel that it contains 32 byte / 256 bit of entropy. The library also supports oversampling itself, it’s a parameter to the jent_entropy_collector_alloc function.

I suggest that you set the oversampling factor to at least 1000.

Refering the attached screenshot, the CONNMARK restore with mask 0xf. Later on the default classification masks against 0xf0. That leads to a missmatch between the CONNTRACK restore and the default classification. So all CONNTRACK marked packets will be overriden by the default rules.
Actually that means that the default classification can not be used.

Firmware for wifi ath9k in the directory /lib/firmware/ is 0 bytes.

Changing the parameter -s 0x1e000 to -s 0x1e800 results in the firmware
being created with 4096 bytes.

The ssid is now displayed, but wifi is very unstable and the connection
is quickly lost.

Here, too, the parameter -l 4096 was changed to -l 5120, which means
that the connection remains stable.

The file /etc/hotplug.d/firmware/12-ath9k-eeprom was locally changed to:

/usr/bin/fritz_cal_extract -i 1 -s 0x1e800 -e 0x207 -l 5120 -o /lib/firmware/$FIRMWARE $(find_mtd_chardev "urlader")

The dmesg shows a bad eraseblock 258 at 0×000002040000, this results in an unreadably factory partition. Symptoms: unreadable MAC addresses (as shown in the dmesg) and TX power on the radios limited to 6dBm, probably because of unreadable calibration data.

A hexdump of the factory partition shows correct contents, but shifted by 0×20000 bytes.

for the internal built-in switch for ar934x series
port 5 of the switch is missing, and therefore physical ports
that are connected to port 5 of the internal switch instead of GMAC0
cannot be used.

Attempting to set a VLAN that includes port 5 never takes effect.

This issue is not noticed for many other ar934x boards with 5 physical ports
because routers with 4 LAN and 1 WAN port use GMAC0 for the WAN port
instead of port 5 of the internal switch.

Lack of functional support for channels 13 & 12 where those are legally available renders OpenWrt unusable as AP/client on raspberry pi 3 & zero w. Both share the same BRCM 43430 driver.

I’m building image for my Xiaomi Redmi 2100 using the imagebuilder, but when I flash my router it never comes back and the amber LED is on. I’m building my image this way:
make image PROFILE=xiaomi_redmi-router-ac2100 PACKAGES=”luci -luci-proto-ppp wpad-wolfssl iperf3 ethtool mtr iwinfo kmod-tcp-bbr kmod-mtd-rw libustream-wolfssl ca-bundle -ppp -ppp-mod-pppoe -kmod-pppox -kmod-pppoe -kmod-ppp -wpad-basic-wolfssl” I’m using GitHub actions to automate it, you can check the workflow here: https://github.com/amaumene/xiaomi_redmi-router-ac2100_openwrt_mesh/blob/master/.github/workflows/build-openwrt.yml I’ve restored the original firmware and flashed with the latest snapshot from openwrt.org without any issue. Hello all,

For some time I see that a problem persists when you want to change the ip address to access the router, this cannot be done from the luci web interface.
The following errors occurred after I connected to the web interface and I wanted to access 5ghz wifi from the phone it can no longer connect to wifi.

Hi,

in the current trunk version, Broadcom Roboswitch will not work for certain router models. However, in the past it did work.

Building OpenWrt from scratch results in a working switch with v17.01.5 (from 15 Jul 2018 21:25:16) for target profile “Broadcom SOC, BCM43xx Wifi (brcmsmac)”. Building OpenWrt from scratch for v18.06.0 (from 30 Jul 2018 18:44:34) results in the switch not working for the same target. So the problematic commit must have been between 15 Jul 2018 and 30 Jul 2018, and the problem is still present today.


For v17.01.5

The problem occured already with 19.07.3 several times, so I upgraded to 19.07.4, but the problem remains.
The wifi module kept crashing and in consequence a part of the wifi devices cannot connect anymore. Sometimes the router
recovers by itself, sometimes not and a reboot is necessary to get wifi working again. It mostly affects the 2,4 GHz band
and not the 5 GHz band, but that might be related which device is renewing DHCP or which ones are not (I am not sure).
A reboot solves the problem, but after some time, the problem occurs again. After the below warning, the router runs without
further problems for 2 days now. So it seems pretty rare. Nevertheless, the same hardware was working fine with 18.x
openwrt for a year at least. No kernel warning at the time. I cannot completely rule out that the HW is broken as it is
of age, as you can see. Any hint on what I should report or test myself is welcome! I can help debug and even install
updates that should fix the problem, if necessary. The router ist just used as an access point - routing is taking
place elsewhere.

I am using default build of OpenWRT 19.07.4 for TL-WR841N v13 without any additional packages. I have Ethernet PPPoE from provider, some ethernet and WiFi WPA2 clients. WiFi and Ethernet are unstable: they can disappear for 30-60 seconds without any serious reason. On 18.06.8 there wasn’t those problems. I attached system log. Thanks for help.
