I am observing ICMP packet too big messages that are sent from the router to the client that have an incorrect src-address: Instead of the router-IPv4 IP, the clients IPv4-IP is placed in the src-address field in the ipv4 packet.

In this particular case, I have a client connected to the openwrt router. The client has IP address 10.139.41.200 and the router has 10.139.0.1

tcpdump shows:

The client discards these packets instead of processing them which results in broken network connectivity.

Instead the packet should look like this:

I’ve got a bunch of GL-MT300A devices suffering from this issue. They are configured as simple openvpn gateway behind a DSL router. There is no WIFI active, no WAN port, just a LAN interface and openvpn. Dnsmasq is used only for name resolution, and not for DHCP.

After upgrading the device from LEDE 17.01 to OpenWrt 18.06.4 r7808-ef686b7292 (latest stable version according to the website) DNS resolution failes after a reboot of the system.

Even though dnsmasq is up and running (ps shows the deamon, and netstat -tulpen shows the deamon listing to port 53 as it should be) name resolution is not working, preventing openvpn to find its servers.

After restarting dnsmasq (/etc/init.d/dnsmasq restart) name resolution starts to work as expected.

I noticed that /tmp/etc/dnsmasq.conf differes between the reboot of the router and the restart of dnsmasq.
The following line appears in the config file after restarting dnsmasq manually:

no-dhcp-interface=br-lan

Adding /etc/init.d/dnsmasq restart to /etc/rc.local seems to be a workaround for the moment.

Using connection by WiFi 2.4G and 5G

The most important functionality of wifi router still does not work properly.

Unfortunately, the wifi of this great wifi router does not work properly with OpenWRT. Unfortunately, the original ROM for this wifi connectivity is far better than when using OpenWRT.

The main problem is with the instability of the connection, constantly every 40 or 60 seconds, is totally lost and unfortunately do not log any files so we can analyze.

The connection simply drops, becomes a few seconds dead, and then comes back.

This problem is greatest with 2.4G connections that is no more than one or two minutes long.

Just after a reboot, some flows are not NATed: packets from a machine in the LAN are sent to the WAN port with a private source IP address.

This is on a Linksys RE6500 (ramips mt7621) running openwrt 19.07-SNAPSHOT r10578-b3d70f628.
It is configured with flow_offloading and flow_offloading_hw.

Here is a tcpdump capture showing the problem on the WAN port (172.23.184.0/24 is my LAN address space):

Hello

Every few weeks I have to restart the 2.4 GHz radio or reboot my Archer C7 v2 router otherwise no client can connect to it.
All stations end up being “deauthenticated due to inactivity” and can’t reconnect.

Tested on OpenWRT 18.06.4. It is quite hard to reproduce for me as it doesn’t happen frequently.

I am having an issue getting two Aerohive AP121 devices to boot properly. I have followed the instructions in the git commit, as shown below.

This was reported in early 2018, but was closed as it was deemed to not be a bug because that report was having the image boot from memory, rather than flash: https://bugs.openwrt.org/index.php?do=details&task_id=1264

Is this an issue of the Aerohive OS boot variables not being compatible with OpenWRT? Or is it something else within the image? Any guidance would be happily accepted to help debug this issue. Remote serial access can be arranged with some lead time.

The same issue occurs with the trunk snapshot as well and is consistently repeatable when following the installation instructions.

I found an older device TP-Link TL-WA901ND v2 in my rack and tried to install latest OpenWrt master (27bf8abe69)
on it. I used the ath79 target with a mostly default minimal configuration.

The device comes up, but no Ethernet link is established with my switch.
This worked of course before (I had an older OpenWrt ar7100 image on it).

Also, I get no serial console so I can only update via U-Boot and ymodem protocol (not tested whether network works in U-Boot).

I attach a full trace of the boot process. Hints are welcome :-)

Reproduce steps:

It prints the following error:

Software versions of OpenWrt/LEDE release: master reboot-11146-gfca9b5e4fb

Upgrading OpenWrt from a kernel v4.14 based master snapshot to a v4.19 based one breaks support for the Marvell MV88E6060 switch of the TP-Link TL-WR941ND v2.4. I can reproduce this with both with a modified master snapshot based on r11146-gfca9b5e4fb (see attached patch, "ath79-generic-add_tl-wr941ndv2.patch") and an official ath79-tiny master snapshot based on r11143-881ed09ee6, with slightly different behaviour but the same result (either crashing in a tight loop or the switch remaining unconfigured and the router, albeit working, being inaccessible over the network).

Using the afforementioned ath79-generic-add_tl-wr941ndv2.patch and reverting back to kernel v4.14, I can build a working firmware based on r11146-gfca9b5e4fb.

if I start “sysupgrade -v /tmp/openwrt-x86-64-combined-squashfs.img.gz” my image will not be updated.

System:

Problem:
As I mentioned earlier, I was suspicious that gzip wasn’t making it to the ramdisk..so I did some digging into how the ramdisk is assembled and found the gzip was indeed missing from the list of packages to copy over in /lib/upgrade/stage2.

Solution:
Here is the relevant function, note how gzip is missing from the list of binaries!

and it continues to boot normally. Up until recently (10561-gff7909f69e) reboots would just hang (see also https://bugs.openwrt.org/index.php?do=details&task_id=1711), so this is an improvement, but still not fully working.

In OpenWrt 18.06.4, r7808-ef686b7292 on Zyxel NSA325v2 (kirkwood/generic/zyxel_nsa325) mdadm segafults due to ASLR (Address Space Layout Randomization).

Workaround that works for me is adding kernel.randomize_va_space=0 to /etc/sysctl.conf.

Im facing some problems with UCI C API and really want to know if im doing something wrong or it is a bug, that has to be fixed.

The version of UCI is `commit 415f9e48436d29f612348f58f546b3ad8d74ac38’, the version of libubox is `commit ecf56174da9614a0b3107d33def463eefb4d7785’. Built with `gcc (Ubuntu 7.4.0-1ubuntu1~18.04.1) 7.4.0’. Tell me if you need more information about my system.

You can observe my code in the attached file. There im trying to add two list entries to the `lan’ section of `dhcp’ UCI package.
If i execute it and then cat config file i get:

config dhcp ‘lan’ list my_list ‘my_first_entry’ list my_list ‘my_second_list_entry’ list my_list ‘my_first_entry’ list my_list ‘my_second_list_entry’

So every line i add with uci_add_list is beein doubled.

But!
When i uncomment lines and delete list first (it could not even exist) i get correct output:

If im adding list entry via console, add_list works just as expected. I read the code, but i was unable to find any key differences comparing to mine.

There is a bug, when you are using a Linksys WRT3200ACM and there is a network with wpa2-eap encryption. You are getting diconnected after one or two hours. It reconnects after a few minutes. This issue only appears with the wpa2-eap encryption method. The wpa2-psk encryption works fine. I am using "OpenWrt 18.06.4 r7808-ef686b7292" and "wpad 2018-05-21-62566bc2-6". The RADIUS-Server is a Windows-Server and the Linksys AP is only a pass-through.

Some time during the normal operation “ieee80211_ctstoself_get” warning happens which and I seemingly lose the ability to use 5ghz AP from my tablet(on my phone it’s perfectly fine).
If I try to restart APs via “wifi” Oops in hostapd happens and take the router with it to soft reboot. Attached 2 recent crashlogs.

Using the 19.07-SNAPSHOT SDK build Sept 12 (last successful build by the buildbots it looks like), and current openwrt-19.07 branch on the feeds, if doing signed build, the build fails due to ucert segfaulting (this is on Debian 10).

Currently there is no system to alert users to possible issues they may encounter when flashing a new image. This has led to certain features being delayed or even withheld (the switch from swconfig → DSA is a good example). Simply put there is no way to alert the average user to configuration breaking changes a new image might make.

A short header that contains important information could be inserted into OpenWrt images. The header is parsed and displayed via LuCI if certain criteria are/aren’t met. This could be something as simple as a image version check or something more complex like configuration and package comparisons.

This is really more of a forward looking feature, but it would allow more drastic changes (changes that cannot be migrated) be made between OpenWrt versions.

- Steps to reproduce

  • via LuCI with 2g radios enabled on radio0 (2g works as expected)
  • Turn radio1 on with ac mode, Transmit Power auto, Hide ESSID ticked, channel 36, wmm off, Encryption WPA2, Cipher CCMP, Krack countermeasures ticked, Short preamble ticked, Disassociate on low acknowledgement ticked
  • On initial save, a laptop will connect successfully and be able to browse the web – once a change is made, like changing the channel, access to LuCI is temporarily lost and the 5g light on the unit goes off.
  • Once this occurs, no device can see the 5g SSID anymore.. once access to LuCI comes back, the 5g radio still shows as enabled

When building an image (from git commit 81764319637f408623ed9f4bae3f0d149b010f07) from already built imagebuilder for ar71xx target, the build fails at the end (after “Finalizing root filesystem”) because of missing ‘mips-openwrt-linux-musl’. I searched the original build directory in openwrt tree and this lib seems to be to find (among others) in:

./staging_dir/toolchain-mips_24kc_gcc-8.3.0_musl/mips-openwrt-linux-musl

but for some reason is not saved into the imagebuilder image.

According to http://www.thekelleys.org.uk/dnsmasq/docs/dnsmasq-man.html . dhcp-host isn’t just for static leases, it can be used to specify lease time, hostname etc, so IP isn’t mandatory. Their example is “For example –dhcp-host=00:20:e0:3b:13:af,wap,infinite tells dnsmasq to give the machine with hardware address 00:20:e0:3b:13:af the name wap, and an infinite DHCP lease.”

OpenWrt currently ignores dhcp.@host[n], if IP isn’t provided. https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/base-system/dhcp#static_leases

- boot
- wait 10 seconds
- watchdog will reset the SoC

Problem:
- the default wdt_drv_timeout of procd is 30 seconds and cannot be changed in menuconfig (https://git.openwrt.org/?p=project/procd.git;a=blob_plain;f=watchdog.c;hb=refs/heads/master)
- the maximum timeout of the sun8i watchdog is 16 seconds (https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/tree/drivers/watchdog/sunxi_wdt.c?h=v4.19.71)
- wdt_frequency is not low enough to prevent the sun8i watchdog from resetting the SoC

I was able to mitigate the watchdog reset with the following patch to procd:

That seems to increase CPU utilisation somewhat, but the router still works.

Every now and then the router also crashes. I have attached a serial logger to the router, so I managed to capture the following crash series. 4-5 crashes during a few hours when the router was mainly idle.

Migrated from ar71xx to ath79 with fresh settings.

Clients can’t see the AP and “iw dev wlan0 scan” is returning nothing. Wifi doesn’t seem to work.
