Archer C7 V2, running release 18.06.01

Having kmod-fs-ntfs and ntfs-3g packages installed. When I try to mount a FAT32 partition using the following command:

mount -o "rw,sync" "$(blkid --uuid 8457-AE8F)" "/TSH"

I get the following error (twice)

Failed to mount '/dev/sda1': Invalid argument
The device '/dev/sda1' doesn't seem to have a valid NTFS.
Maybe the wrong device is used? Or the whole disk instead of a
partition (e.g. /dev/sda, not /dev/sda1)? Or the other way around?
NTFS signature is missing.

(The volume still mounts though).

After investigation, it appears that ntfs-3g is the cause of the problem. Removing it (even while keeping kmod-fs-ntfs installed) seems to stop the error message form showing when mounting the partition.

Dear OpenWRT Team,

Some of my ar71xx devices enters in a reboot-loop, when Ap's signal is lost, in Client (sta) mode. I do not know what I am doing wrong, but I tested with:

8devices Carambola2 (AR9331-AL1F cpu, 16MB flash, 64MB RAM)
8devices Centipede (AR9331-AL1A cpu, 16MB flash, 64MB RAM)
TP-Link TL-WR740N/v4 (AR9331-AL3A cpu, 4MB flash, 32MB RAM)

And I tested on LEDE v17.01.4, v17.01.6, OpenWRT v18.06.1, v18.06.4 versions, but no difference. (Downloaded from openwrt's "Stable Builds" page)

What I did:
Switched these devices to 'sta' mode, adjusted wpa2 password, BSSID, network device, etc..
Everything is working correctly, I was able to ping google, etc.
Then I switched off my Ap (pulled out of the socket)
About 3 minutes after, the Carambola2, and Centipede rebooted.
Circa 10 minutes later the TP-Link is also rebooted.

If I did not switched on my Ap, the Carambola2 and Centipede rebooted in every 3 minutes, and the TP-Link in every 15 minutes.
A few seconds before every reboot, the system on these boards was fully freezed, I could not press enter, or type anything. (I was using a USB-serial adapter)

After circa 6-8 reboot, the Carambola2 was fully freezed, and never reboots anymore.

If switched on my Ap, while devices was rebooting, then everything worked correctly, and well.

I observed that, If the wireless network was opened (passwordless), the frequency of rebooting, was slower, Carambola2 was rebooted in every 5-8 minutes, instead of 3 minutes.

My Ap is a TL-WR1043ND with OpenWRT/LEDE v17.01.3 ooperating system.

I am not sure it Is a power supply problem on Carambola2/Centipede, because if I switched to Ap mode these devices, the system was stable, I could connect with my mobile phone, I could done some speed-test, and the device never rebooted. On TP-Link, I used an original AC adapter.

I tryed Carambola2 with OpenWRT ATH79xx Snapshot version, but if I switched to sta mode (on Luci page), the whole system was fully freezed, and never rebooted, and I could not continue adjusting password, networtk, etc.
Later I checked (with: "ubus call system watchdog" command) the watchdog was offline (by default), so it does not rebooted.

+1 Information:
The Leds on Carambola2, in ATH79xx snapshot image, is switched, so eth0's led is blinking on eth1's socket, and reverse.

- Steps to reproduce - I’m not sure, just a higher load and utilizing the wireless connection. For example I’m loading the LuCi realtime graphs in the browser and start downloading a file from the local network.

Hello,

an older Asus eeePC was just connected to the router using cable. Seconds later the wireless connection became alive as well.
On the DHCP leases I can see the 1 sec older entry for the wired connection, but shows no hostname.
The wireless connection’s lease will expire 1 second later and has the hostname variable.
Is this function broken by design?

Trying to debug a PPPoE issue it was not possible to utilize –verbose with ifup || ifdown since it would appear not being implemented. Thus started to look at what LuCI has on display when stopping || starting the WAN iface via LuCI:

Unknown error (USER_REQUEST)

Whilst USER_REQUEST would seem logical as being manually initiated by the user the Unknown error however led me down the garden path until having traced its source

Which could introduce some sort of confusion to a simple minded user (being me).

would not appear to warrant an error tag at all. And the remainder, except 21, would appear to be rather specific than to be labelled as Unknown error.

Perhaps

*) echo "UNKNOWN_ERROR" ;;

is meant to be anything else that is not covered by codes 1 - 21 but that is not how it turns out on (LuCI) display.

I would thus humbly suggest to sort non-errors from actual errors and not tag the Unknown error to any of the specific error codes. It may help others that find themselves in a similar situation.


Whilst not being part of the topic but in a way related perhaps implementing

--verbose

for ifup || ifdown might go a long way in debugging connectivity issues.

Latest trunk (with 4.19 kernel)

I have enabled DSA in my router with the kernel version 4.14, and it worked well, but since the kernel was bumped to 4.19 DSA has been giving some issues, namely:

- When I add a interface, for example a DHCP client and select for the interface wan.12 OpenWRT crashes and bootloops until it reboots to the last system. After some testing I found out that if I added a interface connected to wan and thern connect the mentioned DHCP client interface to wan.12 the system doesn’t crash

-When I have the system working and connect a IPTV STB to the lan interface, with the exact configuration as in kernel 4.14 the TV works for a while but then image stops. After some testing found out that only the channel that stopped wouldn’t work, while other channels worked, until they stopped working (the same issue as the first channel) and it goes on and on and on until either something (I don’t know what) times out or I restart the router.

This only happened after the kernel 4.14 bump, and I believe this issue also happens with Turris omnia devices.
If you need I’m currently able to test patches as you need.
My question is, Is this a OpenWRT bug or a device drive issue that must be reported to the kernel develp team?
Either way I’m posting the same in the forums.

Steps:
1. Create a second network on 5GHz radio. All settings are the same as the first network, except for the SSID.
2. Reboot router.
3. Connect computer/phone to newly created 2nd network.
4. Computer goes to sleep or phone leaves the house. Wait for a day (maybe optional).
5. Computer/phone can’t find 2nd network anymore. On router GUI the 2nd network still exists, but signal is 0%.
6. Repeat from step 2.

It is confusing that the repo offers ACL userland but globally disables support in the btrfs, with some exception patches for a few specific targets. It would be expected to be consistently enabled/supported globally for all boards.

The problem has been confirmed on gl-inet b1300 and Asus AC58u, latest snapshot and 18.06.2.

very low ipsec throughput under normal strongswan road-warrior configuration, but performance become reasonable after installing strongswan-mod-kernel-libipsec, it means bypass kernel’s ipsec stack.

- Steps to reproduce: is happening after a while, strange as it was everywhere happening .. maybe it was related to keepalaive ?

removing both eth0 & eth1 from their interface, rebooting, then doing

eth0 (lan port) is always up even if no cables are connected (state UP, no NO-CARRIER)

* VRF devices allow VRFs to be nested within namespaces

Unfortunately, support for VRF is currently absent from the OpenWRT repo in all version.

- Steps to reproduce

I have UniElec U7621-06 router with 3 miniPCIe slots. PCIE2 slot gets not detected when the device boots from cold boot.
When I reboot the device from LuCi (warm boot) it works fine.

Currently I am working on setting up a service for freifunk which uses SRV records. Unfortunately I have to install bind-host and all it’s dependencies to make the DNS query. It would be great if the built-in busybox nslookup supported this.

@jow- seems to have done a bit of work on nslookup in the past.

Any support would be appreciated.

Installation of OpenWrt 18.06.2 On Linksys E900 router.
Nothing extraordinary in relation to flashing and initial configuration.

Configure first lan port as a connection towards the internal network. Everything working as expected.
Installed openvpn-openssl. Tried to configure it and ran into the error “Options error: You must define TUN/TAP device (–dev)”.

Nothing I tried resulted in disappearance of that error message.

As IPv6 is being adopted, increasingly people are seeing dnsmasq log ‘spam’. By default under openwrt, dhcpv4 leases are handled by dnsmasq whilst dhcpv6/RA is handled by openwrt’s odhcpd.

odhcpd could handle both v4 & v6 but does not yet have the same configuration flexibility for dhcp options as dnsmasq. I guess this is why no one has been brave enough to switch to odhcpd for ipv4 operations as well as ipv6.

dnsmasq can also handle dhcpv6/RA but not quite as flexibly as odhcpd. dnsmasq will automatically find IP6 prefixes on interfaces and start handling them, whilst openwrt’s strategy with odhcpd is to only handle stuff we tell you to handle, don’t do it automagically.

As dnsmasq is the default resolver for openwrt and the wider LAN, it needs to know about DHCP/hostname allocations. For DHCPv4 this is easy, dnsmasq is controlling them. For DHCPv6 a hosts file (called a statefile in the odhcpd code) is handed to dnsmasq.

By default this host file is not read dynamically, so odhcpd has to signal dnsmasq to re-read the host file (and clear caches etc etc) upon every ipv6 lease change.

This generates a lot of log spam and process startup overhead. There are also questions about service operability during this time.

Effort needs to be put into sorting this out.

Temporary workarounds:

Use ‘hostsdir’ dnsmasq option instead of ‘addn-hosts’ - dnsmasq will dynamically scan changes/additions to hosts in hostsdir whereas addn-hosts needs a SIGHUP. Host deletions cannot be handled by this method, so odhcpd would still need to SIGHUP on lease expiry. It might reduce some of the spam.

Longer term:

Teach dnsmasq to accept hostname updates over an IPC mechanism. ubus? and carry on using odhcpd for ipv6.

Teach dnsmasq to handle ipv6 prefix additions/deletions/handling via an IPC mechanism in the same way as odhcpd. Drop odhcpd and use dnsmasq for everything.

Use odhcpd for everything and use another dns resolver that interfaces nicely with odhcpd.

Why don’t I see this problem: I use dnsmasq to handle ipv6 but I’m lucky enough that this works for me.

This needs fixing/funding to sort it out though.

Checking into u-boot (make menuconfig) seems that lzma cannot be set , only LZ4 is provided.

Also the option to change compression type of the kernel do not work. I try to switch from default (gzip) to LZ4 but kernel uimage is always lzma compressed.

Could you provide some hint to unlock the situation ?

Another strange things is :

Error: ethernet@f0028000 address not set.
No ethernet found.

f0028000 is memory address of GMAC that is not provided in sama5d31 SoC but the curious is the next No ethernet found.

Does it mean that nor EMAC was found ?

I wrote a bug report but then the bug report said wrong token and I lost the report... :(

Now again but shorter version. The usb-modeswitch (which seems to be an openwrt project, a rewrite of original usb_modeswitch https://git.openwrt.org/project/usbmode.git ) needs to set some devices to config 0 before switching to config 3.

BTW this is fixed in usb-modeswitch... Here is the link to discussion about this:

Some devices need to be set to config 0 first to be able to switch to config 3. Otherwise they hang...

And wifi connectivity on radio0 is gone. There is another router on the mesh (WR740v4 with openwrt 18.06.2). I have tried with wpad-mesh-openssl but results were the same.

This mesh was configured about one week ago and was working fine for a few days, but since yesterday is show this behaviour. A reboot on this router does not solve the problem.

I’m using igmpproxy for IPTV on openwrt-18.06.2-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr1043nd-v1-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin

In the past I’ve been bitten by a version of this bug:

Basically igmpproxy will not always start or continue to work when the wan network does ifup/ifdown.

I solved it with the solution listed there:

That seems like a better default, maybe even restarting on any ifup and not just wan, to make it fullproof against weirder setups with interfaces named differently.

With no client (NO-CARRIER) connected to the br-iface its ipv6 is not accessible whilst ipv4 is. Connecting a client to the br-iface and its ipv6 becomes accessible.

Hi,

I’m not able to get USB to do anything on my MikroTik RB2011UAS-2HnD.

I have tried both the latest snapshot (OpenWrt SNAPSHOT r9987-655fff1571) and 18.06.2, both have the same issue. I have also asked a friend to test his RB2011 on 18.06.1 and we both had the same outcome.

Nothing about the USB controller is mentioned in the kernel log at bootup or when devices are added/removed.

The contents of /sys/kernel/debug/usb/devices is completely blank.

DDR_TEMP=`cut -c1-2 /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon1/temp1_input`
WIFI_TEMP=`cut -c1-2 /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon1/temp2_input`

These three paths are wrong, I found these three:
CPU_TEMP=`cut -c1-2 /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon1/temp1_input`
DDR_TEMP=`cut -c1-2 /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon0/temp1_input`
WIFI_TEMP=`cut -c1-2 /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon0/temp2_input`
