OpenWrt/LEDE Project

Welcome to the OpenWrt/LEDE Project bug reporting and issue tracking system

Problems to be reported here are for the OpenWrt/LEDE Project targets, sources, toolchain, core packages, build procedures, distribution and infrastructure. Guidelines for submitting a good bug report can be found at the OpenWrt/LEDE Project website. Problems related to LuCI or OpenWrt packages need to be reported in their repositories:

Notifications of all submissions and task changes are sent to lede-bugs@infradead.org.

Device problem occurs on: All
Software versions of OpenWrt/LEDE release, packages, etc: Every version I tried since at least Barrier Breaker
Steps to reproduce:
1. Install LuCI
2. Log in to LuCI and go to System - Backup/Flash Firmware
3. Click “Generate archive” and download the config backup archive (backup-hostname-date.tar.gz) file
4. List the contents of that archive (ie. tar -tvzf backup-hostname-date.tar.gz)
5. etc/uhttpd.key and etc/uhttpd.crt files are contained twice in the archive

It’s just a cosmetic bug, but it is one I have been wondering about for years :)

19.08.20192451KernelBug ReportVery LowMedium[ath79] HTTP response 408 if using SW flow offloadTrunkUnconfirmed Task Description

Hell there,

I'm using one of the latest snapshot builds (r10280-2b074654b0) on my 1043 V2.
In overall I feel the software flow offload makes the browsing a bit more laggy and strange.
Sometimes Google fails to refresh the map, while I'm zooming in or out, just like Duckduckgo fails to display image results.
But I have one reproducible problematic site load at: https://www.jofogas.hu/.
This is a Hungarian online marketplace, which ends up showing 408 HTTP code after 5 seconds. I've got the same response, but even after I switch the flow offload off, it's back in normal.

Is that a know bug with the flow offload?
Is there any way I can help to figure out what's wrong in this case?

Regards

18.08.20192449Base systemFeature RequestVery LowLow[u-boot] enable GPT supportTrunkUnconfirmed Task Description
  • kernel target: mvebujavascript:void(0);
  • u-boot target: clearfrog

—-

Whilst source provides GPT support (probably since around 2012) it seems to be lacking downstream however, indicated by:

  • attempt to boot from GPT device producing (which would be logical if u-boot does not understand the partition layout in the first place)
** Unrecognized filesystem type **

—-

MBR appears nowadays often being referred to as legacy partition table, also being less secure and less capable in comparison to GPT and thus this feature suggestion.

If I had coding abilities I would have certainly produced a PR instead of opening this task. Just got as far as discovering the build conf for u-boot https://git.openwrt.org/?p=openwrt/openwrt.git;a=blob;f=package/boot/uboot-mvebu/Makefile;hb=552c48ea4375420cf3db1f91038a3f4eca47361b but then getting lost, also when trying to compare to source code.

I think DNS Name should be supported because it’s ugly to use IP addresses. Setting an IPv6 server via “uci set” is possible though and actually works for me.

13.08.20192440Base systemBug ReportVery LowLowRaspberry Pi 3 build does not seem to run in QEMUTrunkUnconfirmed Task Description

I am interested in running a Raspberry Pi 3 OpenWrt image (built from commit 7ec092e6) in QEMU. My aim is to perform some testing of custom-built images before shipment. I am close to accomplishing this, but the kernel panics soon after booting.

I run QEMU With:

qemu-system-aarch64 -kernel build_dir/target-aarch64_cortex-a53_musl/linux-brcm2708_bcm2710/vmlinux -dtb build_dir/target-aarch64_cortex-a53_musl/linux-brcm2708_bcm2710/image-bcm2710-rpi-3-b.dtb -cpu cortex-a53 -m 256 -M raspi3 -append “root=/dev/sda2 rootfstype=ext4 rw” -hda openwrt-brcm2708-bcm2710-rpi-3-ext4-factory.img

The kernel crashes under these circumstances. I attached a screenshot I cobbled together that contains the kernel’s output.

I first mentioned this issue on the openwrt-devel mailing list (June 2, 2019, subject “Running Raspberry Pi 3 OpenWrt in QEMU”), and Petr Štetiar suggested I open a bug report here.

12.08.20192439Base systemBug ReportVery LowLowcomgt hotplug mishandles "bind" eventTrunkUnconfirmed Task Description

My 3g modem goes “unavailable” shortly after being plugged in. Even though the device /dev/ttyUSB* exists, “ifup” has no effect and “ifstatus” shows:

{

      "up": false,
      "pending": false,
      "available": false,
      "autostart": true,
      "dynamic": false,
      "proto": "3g",
      "data": {
      },
      "errors": [
              {
                      "subsystem": "interface",
                      "code": "NO_DEVICE"
              }
      ]

}

I found that this is caused by incorrect logic at https://github.com/openwrt/openwrt/blob/7ec092e64125b920aee6d1767dacea3f61b2fa6f/package/network/utils/comgt/files/3g.usb#L17

Namely, the “add” event is followed by “bind” event, which causes:

proto_set_available “$cfg” 0

And BTW, isn’t there a race condition with hotplug at https://github.com/openwrt/openwrt/blob/7ec092e64125b920aee6d1767dacea3f61b2fa6f/package/network/utils/comgt/files/3g.sh#L38 ?

11.08.20192438OtherFeature RequestVery LowLowMigrate to GitLab or a similar platformTrunkUnconfirmed Task Description

As some other Open Source projects already did, migration to a different service like GitLab might be useful. The benefit is that code and issues (and automated building) can be managed in one place and more easily linked between each other. Also it would make contributions more streamlined and offers a better UI (and UX) for things like the issue tracker.

11.08.20192437Base systemFeature RequestVery LowMediumAdd algorithm for auto channel selection (ACS)TrunkUnconfirmed Task Description

Apparently OpenWrt currently does not offer an algorithm for auto channel selection of a wireless channel. Instead it just always seems to default to channel 1 if autochannel is activated. This is not the intended behaviour and not what a user expects. So I suggest adding some selection algorithm to it (there is already available at least one, so it should not be too hard to add it).

I don’t know if it is relevant, but the only thing different from normal is I had tcpdump sending data to Wireshark overnight (a single host on port 53, so it wasn’t terribly busy).

06.08.20192429KernelFeature RequestVery LowLowContainer Support Enabled by Default for X86 buildsTrunkUnconfirmed Task Description

Hi, Will it be possible to make Release build for 19.07 for X86 and X86_64 have Kernel compiled with full support for LXC/Docker. The idea is to have kernel only for x86 based build compiled with support so that all of use who want to use containers on the router don’t have to recompile the kernel and be able to use kmod packages from the official repo.

Here are the kernel modules which should be included.

CONFIG_KERNEL_AIO=y

I’ve already tested building docked from this feed https://gitlab.com/mcbridematt/openwrt-container-feed with custom build OpenWrt images. But if any additional kmod package is need you’ll have to compile it as well. Additionally there is a great guide (in Russian) https://habr.com/ru/post/341370/ on how to use LXC on OpenWrt

I completely understand the reason for not having these kernel modules on consumer router devices due to storage space limitation but most of users that use X86 for the router have a lot more disk space available.

Personaly I’m using APU3 Board with 64GB SSD to run OpenWrt and I want to use containers to run HomeAssistant on it and also as a PHP developer I can use Docker to run my Development server directly on the router so that I can easily switch between working on desktop and laptop.

05.08.20192428Base systemBug ReportVery LowCriticalath79: sysupgrade will brick devices with RedBoot bootl...TrunkUnconfirmed Task Description

The current code responsible for upgrading devices with sysupgrade image, doesn’t take in to the account that “FIS” partition and “RedBoot config” partition can be on the same erase block. This can cause erasing the “RedBoot config” partition and make the device inoperable. The recovery would involve external SPI programmer or usage of JTAG.

The cause is still assumption so it will need confirmation. Flashing devices with factory image should be safe.

- Device problem occurs on:

   Ubiquiti RouterStation and RouterStation Pro
   jjPlus JA76PF2
   Adtran BSAP1880, BSAP1800 V2 and BSAP1840

- Software versions of OpenWrt release, packages, etc.:

   master and possibly 19.07

- Steps to reproduce

   syupgrade the device

02.08.20192423WebsiteBug ReportVery LowLowmake kernel_menuconfig failsTrunkUnconfirmed Task Description

On a recent Gentoo Linux installation, invoking make_kernel_menuconfig in the build system fails. make menuconfig works.

ncurses-6.1 is installed, installing ncurses-5.9 does not fix the issue.

Error message looks as follows:
ta@pythia ~/openwrt $ make kernel_menuconfig

FWIW, the following works:
ta@pythia ~/openwrt $ cd build_dir/target-arm_cortex-a15+neon-vfpv4_musl_eabi/linux-ipq806x/linux-4.14.134
ta@pythia ~/openwrt/build_dir/target-arm_cortex-a15+neon-vfpv4_musl_eabi/linux-ipq806x/linux-4.14.134 $ make menuconfig

This seems to be ncurses-related, but I would not know which makefile to look into to address the missing library.

01.08.20192420Base systemBug ReportVery LowMediumNo more masquerading after "ifdown wan; ifup wan"openwrt-18.06Unconfirmed Task Description

hw: TP-Link TL-WDR3600 v1
arch: Atheros AR9344 rev 2
sw: OpenWrt 18.06.4 r7808-ef686b7292 / LuCI openwrt-18.06 branch (git-19.170.32094-4d6d8bc)

Network:
lan
pppoe-wan ipv4 plus dhcpv6 client

Issue:
After “ifdown wan; ifup wan” there is no more masquerading done to outgoing packets. Source address of those packets from lan to pppoe-wan are unchanged.

Solution (works for me):
In /etc/hotplug.d/iface/20-firewall change the last line
fw3 -q reload
to
fw3 -q restart

31.07.20192417Base systemBug ReportVery LowMediumMaybe it's a new bug on odhcpd with 6in4TrunkWaiting on reporter Task Description

Just now, I found a bug that made odhcpd unable to add expire time to subordinate devices.Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but I think it’s better to report it first. As shown in the title, this bug should only occur in a network environment using 6in4. My broadband operator may be forced to go offline at any time, I don’t know what the reason is. So sometimes I wake up and find that there is no IPv6 network. The update scripts are not good enough, at least for me. So I am manually updated by chance.

It should happen on all devices but I don’t have so many devices to test so I only tested it on my PHICOMM PSG1218 Ver.A .

After the 6in4 network is unavailable for a long period of time, when the odhcpd sends the IPv6 network to the lower-level device. It has a certain probability that the signal will be sent only once. After the lease time, there is no signal. But after restarting the odhcpd software, everything is fine. The configuration is the same as before, there is no change, so I think it should be a bug...

Maybe more examples are needed to prove this bug, but I will mark it first.

27.07.20192411Base systemBug ReportVery LowHighChanges to configuration are not saved between reboots ...openwrt-18.06Unconfirmed Task Description

I recently updated my D-Link DIR-600 to OpenWrt 18.06.4. As I recall, the previous running version was from the 17.* branch line which worked like a charm. Since the update to 18, the configuration is no longer saved when altered (through LuCI). I suspect the flash size may be too small for this device.

26.07.20192410Base systemBug ReportVery LowLowTD-W8980: Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception i...TrunkUnconfirmed Task Description

A few times to day the ADSL2+ connection is unable to reconnect because something in the driver seems unable to work again, I have an older router (cisco) and it reconnects whitout any trouble.

Restarting the interface with the br2684ctl init script causes a kernel panic.

26.07.20192408Base systemBug ReportVery LowMediumblock (mount) does not do fsck for FAT32 TrunkUnconfirmed Task Description

There is a bug in block.c, preventing fsck for FAT32 volume on mount :
const char *dosfsck = “/usr/sbin/dosfsck”;
is wrong.
Use
const char *dosfsck = “/usr/sbin/fsck.fat”;

instead.

As a work-around, this works on actual openwrt
ls -s fsck.fat doesfsck

25.07.20192406Base systemBug ReportVery LowMediumUnreliable wifi with android phonesopenwrt-18.06Unconfirmed Task Description

I have two WRT1200AC devices set up. One is the router, and the second one is a 2.4Ghz access point that uses 5Ghz WDS for the back-haul. The problem seems unrelated to WDS, although both routers are configured with multiple wifi interfaces on each radio. I see the problem occur on both devices, so it’s probably not bad hardware. I’ve been battling this problem on all recent releases. Last night I tried 18.06.4, and the problem still exists.

I have multiple LG G6 smartphones running android 8.0.0. The problem is that, although they seemingly maintain a solid wifi connection to my openwrt access points, network connections don’t work most of the time (web pages don’t load, messages don’t come in, etc.) Laptops seem to work just fine over wifi. The internet connection itself is perfectly stable, and devices wired to either device work just fine.

The phones seem to work ok on wifi immediately after resetting the access point. After a few minutes, though, the problem crops up and persists no matter what I try, until I reset the access point. Once the problem manifests, luci rarely loads on the phone’s web browser, so it’s clearly not a WAN issue.

When the problem kicks in, in the device’s system log, I can see “IEEE 802.11: deauthenticated due to inactivity (timer DEAUTH/REMOVE)” a few seconds after a phone connects to the access point.

As another data point, I was experimenting with 802.11r. I installed the full wpad package and enabled fast transition. Just like above, Wifi would work for a few minutes. Once the problem kicked in though, rather than the phone claiming to be connected but not work, the phone would instead report an authentication failure and then prompt for the wpa password again. The problem occurs with wpad-mini just as much, it’s just interesting that the symptoms change with 802.11r enabled.

I lack specific knowledge about openwrt development, but I’m an embedded software engineer and I’m happy to collect any debug traces that would be helpful. Just give me the commands or point me at the right documentation...

25.07.20192405Base systemBug ReportVery LowCriticalsnmpd bad interaction with rc.local (gets emptied when ...openwrt-18.06Unconfirmed Task Description

Easy to reproduce:
1) Have something in rc.local
2) Restart snmpd
3) Look again to rc.local is empty

I’ve tested this with several models:
ZBT-WG3526 (16M)
TP-Link Archer C2600
GL.iNet GL-AR300M
TP-LINK Archer C7 v4
SamKnows Whitebox 8

It looks that from time to time, rc.local gets “emptied”.

I’m using cacti to monitor several routers, and from time to time, if an interface is reset (link down, etc.), it looks like cacti gets confused, so I need to restart snmpd.

It looks that that creates the problem, because after that, rc.local is empty.

I’ve been trying to find the problem since I flashed all the routers with 18.06.4 (stable), because initially this was happening when rebooting, so I was not able to find why ... now, I’m almost sure that it is the snmpd restart which creates the problem.

24.07.20192401Base systemBug ReportVery LowLowlantiq: xway: OpenWrt 18.06.x: U-boot_nor: U-Boot hangs...TrunkUnconfirmed Task Description

Device problem occurs on (tested): Alice IAD 4421 (o2 Box 4421), EasyBox803, SpeeportW504_A

Software versions of OpenWrt/LEDE: OpenWrt 18.06.x to trunk, U-boot_nor

Steps to reproduce: flash u-boot_nor trunk and OpenWrt

→ U-Boot hangs at: “Uncompressing Kernel Image …“

→ since OpenWrt 18.06.0 → U-Boot hangs at: “Uncompressing Kernel Image …“
U-Boot LEDE 17.01.6 works but there is none: → scroll bottom

Workaround:
build U-bootgit checkout v17.01.6make menuconfig → look for bootloader

→ or try working: U-Boot_LEDE_17.01.6_2013.10-openwrt4_nor (only tftpput missing)

Trials:
→ tested U-boot_nor (OpenWrt 18.06.x till trunk) on Easybox803
→ tested U-boot_nor v17.01.6 on Alice IAD 4421 (o2 Box 4421), Easybox803, SpeeportW504_A
→ checked U-boot: printenv → kernel_addr=0xB0050000 does match adress OpenWrt has to be flashed to
→ checked/compared size of U-boot: 17.01.6 and 18.06.x almost same

Conclusion:
Is it possible to get working U-boots to → http://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/17.01.6/targets/lantiq/xway/ till bug is fixed or if there is no fix?

22.07.20192396Base systemBug ReportVery LowLowClients become isolated via hairpin_mode=0 after DFS ra...TrunkUnconfirmed Task Description

Summary: After a while clients become isolated, even though "isolate clients" is not enabled. The DFS radar deteion somehow leads to hairpin_mode being set to 0.

Devices:
Tested on several TP-Link Archer C7 rev 5 devices. All exhibit the same behavior.

Build:
Running trunk e05310b9 from 2019-07-12.
Configured with wpad-basic.

Configuration:
The devices are configured with the ath10k 5GHz radio on frequencies requireing DFS.
"Isolate clients" is disabled in LuCI.
There are two SSIDs on each radio brdiging into br-lan and br-guest.

Steps to reproduce:
At startup the device works and all clients can see each other.
The file /sys/devices/virtual/net/br-lan/lower_wlan0/brport/hairpin_mode contains "1" as expected.

Every now and then (normally several days) there is a "DFS-RADAR-DETECTED" event in the log. The hostapd immediately starts to move to a new frequency as expected. One minute later the interface comes back up and clients reassociate, again as expected.

At this point clients are no longer able to reach each other. The effect is as if the "isolate clients" was enabled. Looking at the /sys/.../brport/hairpin_mode file of the radio interface it now contains "0".

The log around that time is:

Iniital analysis:
I found that of the programs compiled in my build only netifd and hostapd writes to the hairpin_mode file.
I instrumented those two programs to log when they write to hairpin mode. At startup only netifd writes a "1" to the hairpin_mode file for the bridge port.

No writes are made to the hairpin_mode file at the time of failure. Since it takes several days for the DFS radar detection to fire I have not yet checked if e.g. hostapd or netifd removes and re-adds the interfaces to the bridge without restoring the hairpin_mode. Maybe someone knows?

From looking at the logs and the code I am not sure if hostapd, netifd or both thinks they are responsible for managing the bridging of the interfaces.

16.07.20192391KernelBug ReportVery LowHighmac80211: ath9k AP fails to honour client's power save ...TrunkUnconfirmed Task Description

Context:

I am using one device in AP mode, the other in client mode.
The client uses wpa_supplicant to do background scan to other channels that the data channel.
I am running iperf (UDP) from the AP to the client.

My device is home-made, Cavium development board-based, equipped with Compex WLE350NX.
It works correctly with kernel 3.18 and the 2015 wireless backport.
I updated to kernel 4.9 and the wireless backport 4.19.32-1, the last one from the trunk. (previously I used backport-2017-11-01 with the same result).

I am running wireshark with Airpcap to spy the wireless link.

Problem:

* When the client scans offchannel, it correctly sends nullfunc frames around the offchannel period, with the PM bit set then unset.

* However, during this time, the AP continues to send data to the client.

* This results in a lot of lost frames, though I set the powersave buffers to high values on the AP side.

After some research I saw that the same kind of problem was fixed several times(*), but since there where so many changes in the queue management, I cannot really compare his work and the current state of the driver.

Any idea / patch / research directions ?

16.07.20192390Base systemBug ReportVery LowHighIssues with PowerLAN devicesTrunkUnconfirmed Task Description

Since switching my WNDR3700v1 from Netgear’s firmware to OpenWrt 18.06.2 r7676-cddd7b4c77, I am experiencing the following issues:

1) PowerLAN adapters and network devices connected through it are only seen by the router if the first PowerLAN adapter is connected through a crossover cable. With the manufacturer’s firmware, it was possible to connect the adapter by standard ethernet cable.

2) A printer connected through PowerLAN does not get assigned an IP4 network address, even though I have defined a static address for it in the DHCP section of OpenWrt; (it does get an IPv6 address though). The missing IP4 network address prevents the scanner part of the printer from sending scans to a network folder on my NAS connected through ethernet cable to the router. This issue also did not exist with the original Netgear firmware.
