Problem does not occur with an OpenVPN tunnel providing the same functionality.

Problem occurs with the following combination :

1 : Wireguard tunnel from RSPro gateway (device wgc21) to a CentOS 7 server (device wg21) which uses the 2 non-public DNS servers in the data centre that it’s located in.

2 : RSPro networking DNS settings are the 2 data centre server addresses.

3 : The RSPro has routes to those DNS servers via dev wgc21

4 : RSPro iptables MASQUERADEs packets going out interface wgc21

On the RSPro’s local network, doing “$ host foo.com” gets a REFUSED reply. Browsers report failure to resolve.

On a local machine, a Wireshark remote capture on the RSPro’s wgc21 interface shows the DNS request packets (with DST=data_centre_dns_server), and a remote capture on the server’s wg21 interface doesn’t show them.

ssh sessions from local machines via the RSPro to the server’s wg21 address succeed.

How to reproduce : As above.

Workaround :

RSPro networking DNS addresses changed to 2 addresses on the wg21 network, and on the remote server two iptables PREROUTING rules added that DNAT those 2 addresses to the data centre DNS addresses.

sysupgrade gave the warning “Image metadata not found”, but a forced sysupgrade seems to work fine so far.

After Upgrading from 19.07.8 to version 21.02.0 the 5 GHZ WLAN is not working any more.
The WLAN gets shutdown by DFS.
FYI: Same freqency was used (channel 52) on 19.07.8 - worked perfekt, on 21.02.0 - doesn’t work due to radar detect and shutdown by DFS.

When using sysupgrade with “-k” to include a list of installed packages in the backup, a mounting error is both logged to console and to log.

How to reproduce:

Do backup with “-k”

mount: mounting overlay on /etc/backup failed: Invalid argument
Cannot mount '/etc/backup' as tmpfs to avoid touching disk while saving the list of installed packages.

The efi image, “generic-ext4-combined-efi.img.gz”, works fine (tested with BIOS boot), that’s why I assume that “generic-ext4-combined.img.gz” is broken.

netifd will immediately and automatically set an interface active/up which has been administratively disabled with either the “ip link set $I down” or “ifconfig $I down” commands.

This problem will only occur if the interface proto is configured for “dhcp” rather than “static”. This appears to be related to the behavior induced by the “force_link” option, however force_link suppresses hotplug events (which breaks my use-case) and probably has other undesirable side-effects.

Below is a sample log where “ip link set eth0.1 down” is used against the “lan” interface-configuration. Note that identical behavior is also observed on a typical ethernet interface (eth0) where there is no intermediate switch or VLAN-interfaces involved.

A novice here so please go easy on me.
I’ve just got OpenWrt 21.02.0 r16279-5cc0535800 on my Linksys MR8300 and one iface does not seem to work.
I followed some suggestion people share on forum, where setup of wifi+timezone+timesync is supposed to be done prior to flash to OpenWrt but that changed nothing.
Even if wlan0 is the only wifi iface/network enabled it fails to start.

Building for Nanopi R4s using sdcard flash on squashfs image
1. set the CONFIG_TARGET_ROOTFS_PARTSIZE from the default 104mb to something say 500mb
2. write to sdcard using dd or sysupgrade
3. initially this will work as it will reformat from the default ext4 overlay to f2fs overlay (via libfstools common.c)
4. clean build and change the CONFIG_TARGET_ROOTFS_PARTSIZE to 1024mb and reflash
5. notice that in the flashed system the mount is still 500mb for overlay
6. changing the CONFIG_TARGET_ROOTFS_PARTSIZE to 300mb also does not work and the mount is still 500mb (could this be dangerous?)

workaround:
1. inspect the sdcard and the partition is the correct size so the residual dirty data in the sdcard is causing the mount to think that its still 500mb
2. if you zero the partition using dd and then reflash the sdcard, the system will see the new overlay size

- Steps to reproduce
1. Change WiFi 2.4Ghz radio channel to 11
2. Try to form a mesh with another device (R6220 was tested with it) using 2.4Ghz radio
3. 2.4Ghz mesh point interface will fail to join the mesh and “ip link” shows said interface isn’t up.
4. Using a different channel (1 and 6 were tested) resolved the problem.

NOTE: I changed country codes from 00 to IN(which has no DFS and no limits) and to US, no changes.

I run OpenWRT on my x86 PC(Lenovo tiny series, UEFI+amd64), use the latest 21.02 stable version, squashfs+efi, and burn into USB drive via Rufus, all new flash, no upgrade, no restore backup configuration.
I totally follow this guide to configure extroot, of course enablemodified the partition /dev/sda1 and something like that. But after reboot I found Extroot partition don’t mount automatic as expected.
Try some times still not work I found not checked enable on luci,so I add

option enabled '1'

in /etc/config/fstab, but still don’t work property. I also follow troublshooting on that article increase delay_root, not work, but true, mount it without problems from a shell after boot.

I search and found this report:https://bugs.openwrt.org/index.php?do=details&task_id=2231, looks a patch in it but I don’t know how to compile and hope use pre-compile stable release. It’s old issue, but it still not marked as completed. I don’t know if it’s relevant.

This occurs on 21.02.0; the MAC override feature worked at least nominally in earlier versions; the interface would correctly reflect the overridden MAC address.
- Steps to reproduce
Network→Interfaces→Devices→Configure set the override MAC field to desired MAC address. Save, reboot (just to be 100% certain). MAC address remains as before the change.
Please note that the new MAC address *is* reflected in the system. “uci show network” does indeed show the change in a new section network.@device[0].macaddr, so LuCI seems to be making a change. It is just that the system proper seems to ignore the change.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Install OpenWRT 21.02.0 Stable as a fresh install.
  2. Visit 192.168.1.1 and sign into Luci (with no password since it is a fresh install), go to System → Administration and assign a password
  3. Close the browser window
  4. Login through SSH and enable HTTPS-redirect for Luci (as mentioned in the release notes: https://openwrt.org/releases/21.02/notes-21.02.0)
  5. Open a new browser window in Incognito-mode
  6. Visit 192.168.1.1 (should be redirected to HTTPS and may get browser warning about being unsafe)
  7. Try to sign into Luci (should get message that the user/password is incorrect)

I have tried clearing my browser cookies, tried disabling the HTTPS redirect, restarted the router manually (power switch on device), tried using the “passwd” command to reset the password (and then restarted the router manually).

No matter what, I cannot login into the router ever again after enabling HTTPS redirect for Luci (even if the redirect is turned off and router restarted). I can, strangely, log into the router through SSH with the password I set for root.

I had to login through SSH and run the (cant remember exact) command to reset the router as if I just installed OpenWRT in order to gain access again.

Use a tool like netcat to open many (i.e 20+) TCP connections to port 53, simulating TCP dns queries
Observe how dnsmasq forks for each connection
Observe how at some point enough dnsmasq children are running that the kernel starts OOMing

This is a quick/easy demonstration on how simply an OpenWRT router can be DoS attacked.

There is a hard coded MAX_PROCS which defaults to 20. This clearly is too high for resource constrained systems like OpenWRT routers.

There is a discussion of this problem on the dnsmasq ML @ https://lists.thekelleys.org.uk/pipermail/dnsmasq-discuss/2021q1/014907.html which includes a patch to make MAX_PROCS a run-time tunable. This could be used by OpenWRT to scale up/down the MAX_PROCS value based on the size of system it’s running on.

It could/should be user-overridable in case he/she knows better what the value should be than any attempt by OpenWRT to scale on a given router.

If no other interface is defined on the underlying phy device (eg eth1) PPPoE fails to connect and loops continually. Speculatively, the issue seems to be that netifd does not bring up the lower device before starting the daemon; it works by default because another interface is defined for that device, causing it to be live when the pppoe daemon runs.

Steps to reproduce:
On a default installation, WAN and WAN6 are initially defined respectively as DHCP and DHCPV6 interfaces on the same underlying device, eg eth1. Switching the WAN protocol to PPPoE succeeds and connection works as it should.

However, if you delete WAN6, or alter it so that it does not use the same (eg eth1) device, PPPoE will not connect again the next time it’s started and will loop.

If you then create a new interface on the WAN‘s underlying device (eg eth1) using some other protocol which forces the device up, such as static IP using 0.0.0.0/32 as the address, this is sufficient to keep the device alive, and PPPoE works as it should.

Only /dev/sda now is present and this device is not block device and cant be mounted.
After physical reconnection of SSD it is working again, /dev/sda1, /dev/sda2 etc. are visible and mounted properly.

1. setup rpi in AP mode
2. setup VLAN interface on br-lan and set the protocol to “DHCP client” 3. use the firewall rules to route from wlan to br-lan<VLAN>
4. wait an unspecified amount of time

Eventually the interface will drop the default gateway for some reason, reflected in the internet access on devices connected to the wlan. Restarting this VLAN interface will instantly fix the problem and connected devices can access the internet again.

Autonegotiation was working properly about a year and a half ago, so there was some changes made in the code that affected it. It also working with no issue with stock firmware.

I’m having a problem with TXPower with my MediaTek 2.4GHz radio on my R6220 Netgear unit flashed with the latest version of OpenWRT, changing the TX power down to 1 dBm all the way down from 20 has no effect on range or RX power seen by devices. The 5GHz radio does not have this problem, and changing the Tx power has a significant effect on both real world range and signal in dBm. I have tried downgrading software with no luck. Any ideas?

- On both 18.06 and 19.07, tried rolling back.
- Tried reflashing to new OS with no luck
- Netgear R6220
- 2.4GHz Radio with TX Power Issues: MediaTek MT7603E 802.11bgn
- 5GHz Radio That Works Fine: MediaTek MT76x2E 802.11acn

After upgrading from 19.07 to 21.02 I found out issues with IP addresses given by my ISP. I found out that the MAC address of the WAN port has changed instead of LAN (before LAN started with 26 and WAN 24 but after upgrading it was the opposite - LAN started with 24 and WAN with 26). It is a very confusing behavior and addressing and IMO it should stay as it was in previous versions.
