FS#761 - WRT54G image is too big for device. #7404
Comments
lleachii: While the Project pages don't specifically say all the reasons why an auto-built image won't work, it should be realized that LEDE is no longer recommended for these devices, due to low flash space and low RAM. There are various wikis on how to add ram (and perhaps, flash) to such a device - what would need to be done to compile for it, etc. Those are extremely advanced and require soldering (and perhaps editing code before compile). I'm not sure of why the old wiki is being used. I'm rather interested because I also use the WRT54G series of devices, some devices had little space to spare after flashing. Lastly, there is a line in the new wiki that states:
I concur with this.
Working as-is on: WRT54G v3, WRT54GS Upgrade Image Used on this page: https://lede-project.org/toh/hwdata/linksys/linksys_wrt54gs Source new wiki: https://lede-project.org/meta/infobox/432_warning |
lleachii: This may be helpful: both devices were upgraded from DD-WRT v24 SP1, the type (mini, mega, etc.) as suggested on that OS 's hardware search. |
ManuelBarrioLinares: I upgrade always using TFTP on boot, so RAM has more than enough space for the transfer. After upgrade, system is unresponsive. (Lucky this router has a bootloader separated so I tftp another firmware and use it, thats why I test firmwares safely) This is the only useful line in your message ("https://lede-project.org/meta/infobox/432_warning") I don't understand your last message. Why that line would be helpful:
|
lleachii: Manuel, I placed quite a few suggestions to try and why; but I think you prefer TFTP method. My main note was: **
Perhaps this will help, I upgraded from the initial release to 17.01.1 in LuCI. The firmware image works. |
ManuelBarrioLinares:
Device: WRT54G v2
Lede version/build: lede-17.01.1-brcm47xx-legacy-linksys-wrt54g-squashfs.bin
The image provided is 4001824 bytes, whereas device flash is 3866624 bytes.
Cannot upload firmware to device.
