During the first boot, boot scripts create: /etc/config/wireless with the following contents:
config wifi-device 'radio0'
option type 'mac80211'
option channel '36'
option hwmode '11a'
option path 'soc/3400000.pcie/pci0000:00/0000:00:00.0/0000:01:00.0'
option htmode 'VHT80'
option disabled '1'
We remove: option disabled '1' (WiFi is disabled by default → enable it) and reboot.

Remarks:
pre-cal/cal-pci error messages are connected to pre-calibration issues, so ignore them
board-2.bin error: indeed /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA988X/hw2.0/ contains only board.bin and firmware-5.bin. we have tried to copy hw2.0/board-2.bin from QCA proprietary driver but then: [ 6.590282] ath10k_pci 0000:01:00.0: failed to fetch board data for bus=pci,vendor=168c,device=003c,subsystem-vendor=0000,subsystem-device=0000 from ath10k/QCA988X/hw2.0/board-2.bin
Nevertheless, the driver is correctly started in AP mode:

Now try to switch to station mode with WPA:

So, WPA supplicant reports: we were authenticated and associated, connection completed. And then we leave WiFi by local choice. WireShark shows that deauthenticate-request comes from from us to access point.
Result: ath10k fails station mode for QCA986x/988x
The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:
Just wanted to share, have very similar issue... tried firmware firmware-5.bin_10.2.4-1.0-00016 (default) and firmware-5.bin_10.2.4-1.0-00029 with same result.
I have a similar problem with version 17.01.4. (BUILD_ID="r3560-79f57e422d")
Hardware: TP-LINK Archer C5 v1 (system type Qualcomm Atheros QCA9558 ver 1 rev 0 with a qca988x chip)
The 5G WLAN has worked correctly with version 15.05, but after the upgrade 5G WLAN AP don't work anymore. Even the downgrade don't change anything. 'iw dev' don't show any 5G device.
I have also:
[ 10.408822] ath10k_pci 0000:01:00.0: Direct firmware load for ath10k/cal-pci-0000:01:00.0.bin failed with error -2

[ 17.170222] ath10k_pci 0000:01:00.0: Direct firmware load for ath10k/QCA988X/hw2.0/board-2.bin failed with error -2
These files are not present in the /lib/firmware directory tree. I have only ath10k/cal-pci-0000:01:00.0.bin and ath10k/QCA988X/hw2.0/board.bin on the file system.
I have finally found out that my issue has nothing to do with the initial issue. wpad and hostapd-utils were installed on version 15.05 (for WPS), but I have forgotten to install them on version 17.01. Nothing in the UI shows the problem. The logread commande gives me the hint. After installing the missing packages, all works correctly again. The load firmware errors seems to be normal.
