I also see this exact same problem on my Fonera 2.0n (2300), with openwrt 15.5, 15.5.1, and Lede latest release (17.01.0 r3205). That is an 8Mb/64Mb RT305x device with 1 USB2.0 port, 4-port switch plus an uplink.
It works fine on the latest developers 2.3.8.0-beta1 image, wifi is stable and long lasting but they do have their own version of everything - I suspect it might be quite an old kernel.

Issues that may be similar/same for exploration, on OpenWRT mostly (so external links from here, added to this comment) - quote from it may be useful/not, I've not yet found a fix without rebooting but trying a few based on people's comments on other bugtracker issues over time:

(from anonymous):I discovered that the problem occurs with kernel 3.14 and newer. With 3.10 wifi is working as expected
(reply to above):With kernel 3.10.49 wifi has this problem too.

(from anonymous):Choas Calmer rev 42618 is the first with kernel 3.14.18 for lantiq.
On my ARV752DPW iw dev wlan0 scan shows nothing. After that I patched the sources to use the old kernel 3.10.49. With that kernel iw scan is working as expected.

Please try the latest snapshot build

on ZyXEL P-2812HNU-F1 the bug is still roaring its head on 18.06.2
The p2812 does not have a working snapshot build so I cannot try this

Thank you for reopening this error.

try to run the snapshot ;)

Apart from the chicken egg problem, you can run the current snapshot, see https://bugs.openwrt.org/index.php?do=details&task_id=2124

At that time beginning of march the error still showed up. And I was able to revert back to the original zyxel firmware which was stable(wifi) and used until today. on the same hardware so it is not a hardware problem.

The kernel has been updated between then and now so I will try again.

I also found the source of the rt3062.eeprom file and considering it is equal between the last zyxel firmware and the file scapi is offering I doubt that the problem is located in those settings. However I do have a different version sourced from the telfort firmware of the same modem, which I will try if I notice errors the coming days.

Mafketel:

Tested with both versions of the eeprom file on 18.6.02 both work and neither solves the issue.

to my mind the telfort one seems slightly better, but I do not know how to substantiate that.

Now Firmware Version
OpenWrt SNAPSHOT r9858-b6acb7b / LuCI Master (f138fc93) Kernel Version 4.14.111
lets see how that performs, first impression luci seems to lock up ... but after a restart it seems to work. WiFi working for now.

Mafketel:

That would explain the higher stability the current snapshot displays.

I will not and cannot make a final call on stability since we had a couple of accidents with the modem the past week, unintentionally pressing the wifi on off button, and we had a couple of power outs including a dropped power adapter.

The modem is currently running 3 days strong but I would like that to be at least a week before calling it stable.

first wifi kernel error after 6 days but the modem is still going strong

[547176.395534] ieee80211 phy0: rt2x00lib_rxdone_read_signal: Warning - Frame received with unrecognized signal, mode=0x0001, signal=0x010d, type=4

so far so good ;)

Any change this fix is going to be implemented in version 17 or at least in 18?

Mafketel:

I just want to add that with the snapshot I am running right now that after 60 days we cannot use the wifi anymore.
these are the relevant error messages:
windows 10 laptop says it can't connect to this network.
none of our android and iphones are connecting.
wired there is no issue

modem kernel log:
ieee80211 phy0: rt2x00lib_rxdone_read_signal: Warning - Frame received with unrecognized signal, mode=0x0001, signal=0x010f, type=4
modem system log:
daemon.notice hostapd: wlan0: STA 60:57:18:5e:c7:0c IEEE 802.11: did not acknowledge authentication response
sometimes these pop up
daemon.info hostapd: wlan0: STA 60:57:18:5e:c7:0c IEEE 802.11: disconnected due to excessive missing ACKs
daemon.info hostapd: wlan0: STA 60:57:18:5e:c7:0c IEEE 802.11: deauthenticated due to inactivity (timer DEAUTH/REMOVE)
daemon.info hostapd: wlan0: STA 60:57:18:5e:c7:0c IEEE 802.11: disassociated due to inactivity

disabling and enabling the wifi on the modem made it work again
Firmware Version
OpenWrt SNAPSHOT r9858-b6acb7b / LuCI Master (f138fc93)
Kernel Version
4.14.111

I will update to 18.06.4 later today since it might have a newer kernel version if it is running the 4.14 kernel vs the 4.9 kernel.
