Environment :

  • Netgear R7800 (Nighthawk X4S AC2600)
  • OpenWrt 21.02.0-rc1 (sysupgraded from OpenWrt 19.07.7 with some basic configuration)

Problem encountered :
After doing a sysupgrade from OpenWrt 19.07.7 to OpenWrt 21.02.0-rc1, everything looked fine at first sight, but I have noticed that none of the WiFi clients were connected to the 5GHz WiFi, they were all connected to the 2.4GHz WiFi, which leaded to a bandwidth diminution and my printer was not anymore accessible.
Now, I am back to OpenWrt 19.07.7 and the printer is working fine again.

Sorry I don't have more details on that problem, I am creating that bug ticket to see if I am the only one concerned by that bug.
I don't even know if the 5GHz WiFi was emitting for real or not.

Update :
Today, I installed "OpenWrt 21.02.0-rc2", and no change, there is still no client which can connect to the Wifi 5GHz.

My printer problem was not related to OpenWRT, I think the printer doesn't realize the 2.4Ghz and 5GHz with the same name are the same network and it didn't even try to connect to the 2.4Ghz when the 5GHz was down.

On my side, the "switch" configuration is available in LUCI after a "config migration" (popup) was automatically performed.

The commands :

'airodump-ng --ivs --band bg wlp2s0mon' (2.4 GHz scan) shows my wifi emitting.
'airodump-ng --ivs --band a wlp2s0mon' (5 GHz scan) does NOT show my wifi emitting.

I am still on "OpenWrt 21.02.0-rc2", and today I performed a reset of OpenWRT (factory reset).
The goal was to see if the bug was caused by my OpenWRT configuration.
But the bug is still here : No 5Ghz wifi in the air.

In the log there are messages like :
Sun Jun 13 13:40:04 2021 daemon.err hostapd: DFS start_dfs_cac() failed, -1
Sun Jun 13 13:40:04 2021 daemon.err hostapd: Interface initialization failed

I made it guys !

Here is a workaround : I have now repaired my 5GHz wifi by changing from "channel 116 width 160MHz" to "channel 116 width 80MHz" (US setting).
