Supply the following if possible:

  • Device problem occurs on
  • Software versions of OpenWrt latest dev snapshot - r13527-61307544d1
  • Steps to reproduce

Trying to update from OpenWrt SNAPSHOT r13342-e35e40ad82 to r13527-61307544d1 released on Jun 10 2020
This r13527-61307544d1 version is found here
https://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/targets/mvebu/cortexa9/

When trying to update firmware using the Luci interface, the following message is shown when Upload is clicked

Device linksys, rango not supported by this image Supported devices: linksys,wrt3200acm Image check failed.
The uploaded image file does not contain a supported format. Make sure that you choose the generic image format for your platform.

There is an option to force the upgrade, but that does more harm as the network connection breaks permanently if its chosen.
Only way to backout is to switch on-off 3 times to revert to backup firmware image.

I am attaching a screenshot of the message.

NOTE: I regularly run the Dev snapshot images from the last 1+ years and I havent had the router breaking the network
If you want me to gather logs and send them after the failed upgrade finishes, please provide me steps to do and I will send it to you.

Thanks

Caused by [[https://git.openwrt.org/?p=openwrt/openwrt.git;a=commit;h=df6f3090c48e3bafa0ace7450488b0a20a8074fb|commit]], but the main issue is that there is a change from swconfig to DSA which will break things while keeping your config. Flash without keeping your config and redo from scratch, or alter a backup of your config and reload.

As already answered above, we introduced an incompatible change to the network setup. To prevent people from flashing into a broken network config by accident, I decided to also do the device rename at this point in order to at least have some warning.

Flashing should work with both -n and -F set, i.e. not keeping settings and forcing the upgrade.
