Supply the following if possible:

  • Device problem occurs on
    tplink-c2600
    netgear-r7800
  • Software versions of OpenWrt/LEDE release, packages, etc.
    18.06.2
  • Steps to reproduce
    opkg remove ath10k-firmware-qca9984 && opkg install ath10k-firmware-qca9984-ct

On both systems using the -ct firmware caused a crash of the router resulting in a reboot. Replacement of the ct with the standard firmware makes the routers stable again.

No crashlogs haven been found (no persistent logging).

Hmm, the ath10k-firmware-qca9984-ct requires the special kmod-ath10k-ct driver as well. Can you please test what happens if you also install the ath10k-ct driver?

Small correction to the bug report:
with tplink-c2600 concerns ath10k-firmware-qca99x0-ct
with netgear-r7800 concerns ath10k-firmware-qca9984-ct

About need to install ath10k-ct driver: according to the package description only the ct-htt firmwares require the installation of the ath10k-ct driver.

~/ # opkg list |grep -e "qca99.-ct."
ath10k-firmware-qca9984-ct - 2018-05-12-952afa49-1 - Alternative ath10k firmware for QCA9984 from Candela Technologies. Enables IBSS and other features. See: http://www.candelatech.com/ath10k-10.4.php This firmware conflicts with the standard 9984 firmware, so select only one.

I'll retest the ct firmware on the netgear-r7800 and will report on that.

Running on R7800 now more than 10 days without any problem with CT firmware and non-CT driver. This environment has only few concurrent WiFi users, so maybe the problem only occurs with larger number of users. No suitable environment available though to test this.

So, is the problem gone or still existing?

My systems run 18.06.4 already for quite some time, without problems.

Installed relevant packages:
ath10k-firmware-qca9984 - 2018-05-12-952afa49-1
kmod-ath10k - 4.14.131+2017-11-01-10
