Dear Colleagues:

  1. I have been testing basic networking functions of OpenWrt 18.06.1 "full Install" version on the above captioned device since 2018-10-16. This was done through BIN file download and install process. The operations tested appeared to be fine.

  2. I was instructed to try a "snapshot Install" version to see if a recent Kernel update (2018-12-14, see link below.) is performing as intended. Upon powering on this version in the existing test-bed, however, the DHCP client PCs (with Xubuntu OS) appeared to see the LAN service by having their addresses assigned and were able to get response from the gateway when PINGing it with 192.168.1.1. However, attempting to use a web browser to access the router homepage at 192.168.1.1 failed. Also, the PCs could not get PINGing response from one another. Perhaps the earliest tell-tail sign is that as soon as the router is powered on with the "snapshot version", the 2.4G WiFi status indicator LED is turned on, while the "full Install" version does not.

  3. To verify, I downloaded and installed both full and snapshot versions of current BIN files from the OpenWrt website today and verified their integrity by checking the check-sums first. The above symptoms appeared to be repeatable after going through the processes a couple cycles alternating between the two versions.

Thanks for your attention,

If you check file size for release and snapshot, you'll notice, that they're different. Snapshot builds are smaller as they don't have LuCI web interface installed. Web interface is only available in release builds.
