I have problems with the switch in two TL-WR841N devices.
Hardware:
TP-Link TL-WR841N v9
Software version:
OpenWrt 18.06.1 (also in OpenWrt 18.06 and in LEDE 17.01.x)
Configuration:
Running as simple wireless access point. dnsmasq, iptables and odhcpd are disabled. static ip adress configured. No pppo[ea], no vlan.
Behaviour:
The switch stops working, so no packets are switched between the ports (and also not to wifi or the device itself). This happens at random. Sometimes the problem appears twice a week, then it does not appear for 4-6 weeks.
What's NOT the root cause:
I changed the power supply to make sure the behaviour is not related to voltage/power problems. But this didn't change anything. Also high wifi or wired traffic don't seem to be the reason because sometimes the problem occurs at night. There is only idle traffic during night hours. Yes, I am sure about that.
Workaround:
ssh'ing to the device over wireless works, after issuing /etc/init.d/network restart everything runs smooth again.
I thought that the problem discussed in FS#762 also applies to my WR841N, but was corrected that this is not the case (see the comments in that task).
What can I do to track down the problem?
Thanks and best regards,
Sven

Were you able to test in another hardware, same model, to eliminate the possibility to be a hardware issue ?
I have been seen and trying to identify some instability issues with 18.06 on more older hardware like this one (even though it has 32MB of RAM) due to its bigger footprint so I am interested to find out more if it make sense or not in order to make sure 18.06 is still an option for them or not.
I was going to say that if you don't have another hardware to test 18.06, you may try to downgrade it 17.01.6 and find out if you see the same issues but you already mentioned you tried both. Therefore it seems another indication it may be a hardware issue.
