while 8188eu firmware is available as a package, the driver/module is not available (and the firmware should recommend the driver---not depend as a custom kernel might build it in)
I've somehow the impression you are not aware that we're using [[https://git.openwrt.org/?p=openwrt/openwrt.git;a=tree;f=package/kernel/mac80211|mac80211-backports]] instead of the wireless drivers provided by the actual kernel.
What you are really looking for is the kmod-rtl8xxxu. At least in theory. The backport of the r8188eu related commits [[https://git.openwrt.org/66c5696cdf9599ccef652a651f52c0f7f53da44a|was dropped a few days ago]] after an e-mail exchange with the upstream maintainer.
I wasn't involved in the mail exchange, but judging from the commit message, it doesn't look like they will be (re)-added anytime soon.
